Hey all,

I myself tried playing the gog version of the game when it came out and had missing textures and models in the game and sound acten up hella.

I found the ultimate solution.

1st thing you do is install the game(DUH)

2nd thing is goto this url

download the latest version of dgvoodoo2

open the zip

extract both dgVoodooCpl.exe & dgVoodoo.conf to your games install for example for me it is: C:\GOG Games\The Suffering

then in the same zip navigate into the MS folder then the x86 folder.

extract all the contents in the x86 folder into your games folder

then while still in the MS folder of the zip navigate into the x64 folder

extract the D3D9.dll file into your games folder and overwrite if prompted.

after all the D3D files are extracted go back in the zip and navigate the 3Dfx folder and then the x64 (QEmu) folder

then extract Glide.dll, Glide2x.dll, & Glide3x.dll to the games folder

now you may change the resolution ingame to whatever and cut all visuel features on too ingame

you may also before launching the game run dgVoodooCpl.exe in the game folder and configure it to how you want.

doing all this not only will let you play in HD resolutions but 4k as well and at a steady 30FPS, you may achieve 60FPS if you force it with your gpu software outside the game such as nvidia inspector.

Okay so I figured out the chipmunk audio problem. you will want to open the launcher settings and disable 3D sound buffers. you will be able to leave on environmental sfx

I have provided example photos showing the game running in 1080 HD perfectly, notice I even took photos of the archives to show how unlike with AiO there is no distortion on the screen when using them

here is my example video showing me running the game at 1280x720 at 60FPS perfectly fine on the 1st level: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJH5jFAvnA0uBcmHYbLwGpgOCE_kRM8qL

UPDATE: So I have had peeps ask about the game crashing using my method and I honestly didnt have an answer but turns out its as simple as deleting 2 files in the game folder, just delete "dsound.dll" and "dsound.ini" and then get this and just extract it to your game install...it should make all audio cues work and music and not cause any crashes

those wondering.

yeah it appears the games engine relies on a a mix of both D3D + glide hense why my guide advises to use both types of files

and no you dont need the AiO fan patch. infact that patch actually distorts the game in higher resolutions for sum reason

This is not true. I'm playing the game in 2560 x 1440 with the AiO patch installed and everything is scaled correctly.

so when you look in archives with the AiO patch 1 side of the screen isnt distorted/glitched as reported or warned by the patch creator?

unno what image errors you speak of. I mean I know the inventory icons dont necessarely display their images properly for items collected in it but as far as I can tell and from what others have said there should be no artifacts like in the AiO patch
So should I use the AIO patch and the "ultimate fix " together?
thanks
And all ftles extracted to the root folder? also should the be run once first?

actually no...the AiO patch actually breaks more than it fixes

also note I updated my guide in the end about the audio fixing.

and I plan to once again tomorrow restart my video streaming of the game with that fix included

Thanks for the reply. Does this fix the CPU affinity problem with modern cpus? I guess it does if the crash stops.
also all of this goes in the root folder only? No sub folders?
nvidia inspector is in the nvi folder

I assume it does fix the CPU affinity problem and yes in the root or install folder the game is located in

Should I run the game one before all of this?
The sound fix in the updated part. All of the contents in the download get extracted or just the dlls? Sorry about all the question...
