If I had to guess, it's some kind of deep seated issue. Ubisoft has all the rights to it, having absorbed both Blue Byte and SSI, perhaps they lost the source files or something?

Considering they released History Editions of all Settlers games on their own launcher (ex-Uplay), hardly likely.

Well, in that case it's a living mystery, given they've had over a decade to put it out here, and the DOS version is a lot better looking than the Amiga version.
