i just wondered what people thin is the better of the 2 versions?

I think that The Settlers 2 Gold Edition is better because it was first strategy of that type for me that i played. I have very good memories for that game.

To me the remake is the better game. I have both, played Settlers 2 a lot back in the day, but play 10th now adays. It really is a great remake. Add the expansion-packs and you've got a real gem.

The original is great for when i need the nostalgia-fix, but to be honest i prefer Settlers 1 for that.

Don't get me wrong though. I rank Settlers II among the best in the genre.

Settlers II: Gold Edition, without a doubt. The anniversary version is just so noisy and unsightly.

10th anniv is nice, but its kinda hard to spot. Did they even translate the addons?

I played troughfully both, and i believe that the Gold, original version is the best..My suggestion is: play the Gold original version first, beat it,and then play the 10th anniversary one for the add-ons

The addons are great, actually.

Thats why having them on GOG would be AWESOME. I want the 10th anniversary to be on here one day... esspecially since I want those addons and chances are GOG would translate them like they did the expansion of knights and merchants

I've played through the 10th anniversary addition, with English add-on, and it's great. Love the slowness of the game (until I'm overrunning the enemy). The music is great, the better graphics is great. Wonderful to be able to build up an economy in slow fashion without 'having' to speed on over to the enemy and crush him while he's weak.

Admittedly I've not tried the original version, but I can't imagine that to be great when I've played the 10th year addition with better graphics and GUI.

Viking is awesome btw. Some of the missions are pretty tough too. Fighting a genuine two-front war is not easy.
