I've been having issues with my game stuttering whenever I move my mouse. I started looking in my settings and figured out what was causing it (shot in the dark really).

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\The Settlers II - 10th Anniversary\data\settings\engine.ini

and simply change the 1 to 0
hardwareCursor = 0

Cursor flickers, game pauses when moving the cursor, can't build anything sometimes.
These issues appeared especially during streaming, and this solution solved the problem.

(Multiplayer in Settlers is still possible with GameRanger)
(And Ubisoft should make the Vikings AddOn extension available to stores, why don't they? They should ignore the fact that there is no official English Translation, it's in several other languages available)

For me sadly, when I apply these changes and start the game, I don't have a cursor at all :/ can anybody maybe help with that?

I guess this has to to with the monitor scaling. You are using 125%, 150% or higher, in Windows.
A solution for this would be:
1) Right click on The Settlers II - 10th Anniversary
2) Properties
3) Compatibility
4) Change high DPI settings
5) Override high DPI scaling behavior
6) OK

Tell me if this will solve your problem.

This really helped me. I can play on my native 2k monitor otherwise I had massive lag and wondered how this was possible on a 20 year old game. I still remember the wonder I felt playing the first settlers, and the wonder i had even if i has no clue what each building did and how to play. I can now play on my desktop instead of playing on laptop. I couldnt play because of lag.

Absolutely brilliant fix! My game play was so annoying due to the weird lagging problem prior to finding this solution. Not sure how on earth you managed to come up with this solution but well done!
