Hi!

I'd like to know, before buying the game, if multiplayer works between two copies of the GOG Edition of Settlers 3.

I've already been disapointed with previous games and want to be sure before buying, as the game will lose a great deal of interest for me if I can only play solo.

Thank you dear GOGers!

If anybody who (like me) already bought the game would want to try if it works, I'd be up for a multiplayer test game to find out.
when i get home this evening, i will test this matter with my desktop pc and netbook and let you guys know.
ill risk a double post so people see the thread was updated. i tested the LAN multiplayer over my WLAN and it works with 2 GoG versions of the game, i used a desktop pc and a netbook both with win7 x64 sp1. you might have to leave the game while searching for an open game because windows firewall pops up and asks for permission. after that it should work fine. if i have enough time ill test if the gog version works with other versions of the game, like my german gold edition.

Thank you Oedi!

I'll give it a try :)

Thanks for testing! Good to know multiplayer still works. Internet multiplayer is supported through GameRanger aswell.

Did you ever get that working? Seems the GOG version doesn't want to play with the retail CDs.

no, but i will test it today.

edit:

ok, it seems like the gog version is using a different internal version number, because my settlers gold version 1.60 says "host is using another patch version" when i try to connect. they are both on patch version 1.60 though.

Thank you for taking the time to test it out. I'd been eager to play with someone else retail vs GOG and had no luck with the same error. Must be from whatever crack GOG uses. I'll see if support can help although I wouldn't count on it.
what i havent tested is using another .exe to start the gog version. i dont have the possibility to test it right now, so you might be interested in trying that. i remember that the game starts by using the single.exe, but there are also s3.exe and s3multi.exe or something like that in the game folder. maybe that will help.

I've tried doing that. It didn't work. The CD Version and GOG version are incompatible. So they won't work at all together.
If you want to play with someone. You have to make sure both of you are using the CD Version or both of you are using the GOG Version.

Unfortanlly, its the only way to play together which completle sucks. but its okay I suppose. Would be nice to play with some poeple. But no one wants to do a 2v2 (AI) battle :(
As an FYI, it seems that the S3Multi.exe and Single.exe do not actually work with the Multiplayer: Internet... At least, not on my copy. However, I will be testing, later today, the Multiplayer: LAN with Hamachi to see if it sets up and plays with another person. If anyone has gotten the Multiplayer: Internet working, then I'd be up for a 2v2... or more.

I have uploaded the image showing the screen it gets stuck on, if you create or try to login to the Multiplayer: Internet account. It would be nice to have a patch, crack or revamped internet option (or just a client that works!) so we could play games together.

online play doesnt work, you should read the gamecard properly.
