If nothing works then you can run as administrator 'regs.cmd' from main directory. Worked for me.

agent00x: for any future readers, I didn't even restart my computer. I just loaded the game, tried to go into the tutorial and it asked for the CD key, I then exited out of the game and reloaded it, and then it didn't ask.
hey guys i have now several times tried to close the game reload, start as admin, even try out diferent compatibilty setting nothing ,... the game asks me every time for a seriel key no mather what - pls help ,.. also , what i´ve bee nreading from other useres, i can nowhere find a serial key to manually enter, i contactet suport but so far no answer

According to this, there should be a hotfix to fix this issue.

I tried to restart game, like the post above suggested, it didn't work. I had to go to GOG Galaxy, select the game, click the MORE button, then Installation, the Verify/Repair. After that it started and ran normally.
I had installed using the offline installer, so I guess that's why it didn't update automatically.

Yes, I had troubles, too. ALWAYS asked for CD Key. To be a bit more specific, in the game directory is a batch file called "regs.cmd." Double clicking this file got me into the game :)

sorry guys I need your help.. I am not that good when it comes to deal with my laptop..
I am trying to run the game and I've been following all your suggestion but being not succesful.
It always appear the request for the serial number and I do not know how to deal with it.
I run as admin, it didn't work.
Then I look into the directory, but I may wrong, and I clicked on regs but it say "Error: access denied".
What to do now?

You need to run regs.cmd as administrator.
So right-click on regs.cmd (in the main directory) and then select "Run as adminisrator".

Hi there !

If you have this issue and if you are on Windows 7, there is a problem with the system path system32.

Copy and paste regs.cmd to c:/windows/system32 and run it.

Try to launch the game and you should see an gold font (with the word gold edition) than the orange fluo font.

Don't forget to clean this regs.cmd from system32 folder.

Depends on where you installed it.

Check C:\GOG\Settlers 3

To know for sure, open the installer, select Options, and you should see the installation folder there (it saves the path to last installation).
