Hi all,

We recently wanted to play Settlers 3 again. As our Laptops do not have any CD drives I was looking for alternatives to the original CDs. With great joy I found the offer from GOG!

I've just installed the GOG Settlers 3 on two Lenovo Carbon X1 with Windows 8.1. We'd like to play the game in our WLAN. The installation worked well (apart from the first time at startup asks for serial issue) and I can play the game in single player mode. However, when we try to join a game in LAN mode it doesn't work. The steps are as follows:

1) Multiplayer-Game: LAN
2) Select TCP/IP
3) New Game on Host Computer
4) Enter IP of host on Client Computer (DHCP, checked with ipconfig)
5) Search for Games (game appears)
6) Select the Game and press Joing Game
7) Screen appears but the game is never shown. It just says "Searching for Open Games"

Firewalls are turned off and both S3 and S3_multi are added to the firewall exceptions for outgoing and incoming connections.

I would be very glad if anyone could help us to play this great game on the laptops without CD drives.

Thanks,
L

I managed to get the game running now by using a direct ad hoc WLAN connection between the two notebooks (both do not have an ethernet port). Also I started both applications with the standard link and as administrator.

I'm curious what settings on the AP/router would be necessary to also get it to run using DHCP and a connection over the AP/router? I'm only talking about multiplayer games in the LAN and not over the internet! I'm thankfull for any hints.

Best,
L
