JOHNB007: Hello.

This is what fixed the issue with the 3d error'

I installed Settlers III from GOG, the latest hotfix version.

When you run Settlers III on a modern OS, Windows will ask to install DirectPlay, go ahead and install the update.

Then I could run S4, but it was laggy, really laggy.

I had to apply both the S4 main fix and the S4 Editor fix, Edit the Dxwrapper on the Editor fix and set the DX7 to 1.

Everything works Ok now.

Hope this helps.

e1lobo: Anyone knows how to play Settlers IV in lan?
I'm getting very low performance on an AMD Ryzen R5 1600 and an AMD RX 570 4GB. Runs fine on my PC, Same setup just an Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB instead of the AMD Card. AMD issue?

Sorry for late response -> When you bought Settlers iV - go to gog.com -> click on your account name in top panel (i guess it is Kat_Richards) -> "Games" -> find "Settlers" in your list -> click on "\/" button to show options -> click view downloads -> on the bottom of new window choose "Download offline backup game installers" - it would be easier then installing throgh gog galaxy I guess. - that is all ;)

eriedlinger: Hello Simon, The latest version of The Settlers IV from GOG already includes my fix. You should no longer need my patch. Try downloading the latest version from GOG and reinstalling it.

Simon_Bishop: Hi eriedlinger thanks for the quick reply, I have tried a few gog versions 2.0.0.4 but it says:
The procedure entry point MiniDumpWriteDump could not be located in the dynamic link library C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dlumd9.dll

so i then press ok the graphics change as if the game is loading then it says:

Software 3D: Error initializing Graphic Interface.....blah blah
I got the latest version from IPTorrents but i dont think its the latest one do you have a link to the latest game thankyou very much
Hello Simon and eriedlinger!
Sorry to barge into your threads here. I have no clue what I am doing, but I recently bought/installed S4 through GOG but only get the 'Software 3D: Error' and 'Hardware 3D: Error' message when I try to play. I had a go at trying to meddle with recommended fixes etc but the message is still the same.
Is there any hope for me to be able to play my fave childhood game?
Hey guys, I have updated my guide (both here and on my blog). I have rewritten most of it, so it should be easier to follow, simpler to execute and more complete.

Also, thank you for keeping the discussion alive all these years. I have been reading most of your posts and trying to consider most of your alternate solutions for the revision. Some of them I have been happy to include (the Widescreen Tool), other I haven't been able to fully test myself as exhaustively as I would have liked to (DxWnd or eriedlinger's Patch, the latter of whom I've decided to mention nonetheless). Other things, such as the music fixes (which now include many more things, like the missing Viking music) have been completely revamped.

I have also decided to mention eriedlinger's Patch (and DXGL) because even if the GOG version seems to include it now, there may be some people still using the original disk version.

Hoping to hear some feedback from you,
Slax.
Hi all,

I'm having sound issues for my GoG version of Settlers 4 Gold Edition.
I have version 2.50.1516 installed just today.

When I start the game, the Ubisoft logo is played with its usual intro sound.

However when the Bluebtye logo and the intro video starts, there is no sound at all. This is also the case when I enter into the game - no sounds or music whatsoever.

Has anyone else experience this? Is there a solution?

I'm running GoG/Settlers 4 from Win10.

Any help would be appreciated, many thanks!

Hi Slax,

Thank you for your work on trying to fix this issue but it seems to not have worked for me. I purchased Settlers 4 from GoG, installed it on my Windows 10, tried to run it, got the 3d error, followed the steps you suggest in the first post of this thread (installing DXGL, adding S4_Main.exe and running the game again) but it still gives the same 3d error message. I even tried the eriedlinger patch (before I read that the game comes with it installed already now)

The only thing I haven't tried is the one from a few comments above, saying to download and try to run Settlers 3 and do something that way (as it would require me purchasing that game as well and I don't want to do that without a guarantee that it would fix my issues)

Any further advice?

Thanks

Rob

eriedlinger: I created a patch for The Settlers IV on Windows 8 and Windows 10. This works without DXGL, DxWnd or dgVoodoo. It is specific to Settlers IV. You can check it out here: The Settlers Windows 10 fix
Great work Dude ....;)
Rob,

I updated the patch. Can you try with the new patch?

Here is the download S4_Main_fix.zip

Unzip this to the 'exe' folder under The Settlers IV Gold, overwriting all files. Make sure you put in in the 'exe' folder.

Also make sure to disable all compatibility settings under the properties of S4_Main.exe.

If you still have issues after this update then send me your dxwrapper.log file, it may have data it in that can help.

Thanks,
Elisha

Hi guys. I installed Settlers IV Gold Edition on my Windows 10 PC from the disc I bought years ago. I have a twin monitor setup, both at 1600 x 1200 resolution. After using DXGL the game launches and I hear the music but the screen is just black. Button clicks seem to work on the menu items even though I can't see them.
I also tried the eriedlinger widescreen patch but this does not have a 1600x1200 option so I'm not sure whether selecting a different resolution is a problem?
Can anybody give me any tips to get it working?

No need to worry - I got it working now by removing DXGL and using elishacloud's dxwrapper patch. I can't post a link as the system won't allow me.
I also set S4.exe and s4_main.exe to run in compatibility mode for XP sp2 and run as administrator, although I'm not sure if this was required.

If you use my latest release of dxwrapper you can get 1600x1200 working with this game. You can download the latest release here: https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/releases

Just make sure that "EnableDdrawWrapper" is enabled. Also you may need to enable "DDrawCompat".
Anyone know how I can change monitor for the game ?

my TV is default screen, and I want settlers to start on my PC monitor (2nd screen)

Thx in advance
Hmm i can answer to your question on the example i made with disciples 2 soo if i use big resolution lets just say 1920x1080 which is full HD its open on my main monitor and there is kinda graphic bug which makes game is too much purple squares and other graphic sh*t soo i tested other resolutions but i got 2 monitors and the 2nd one is with small resolution 1024x720 something like that and when setted to this kinda resolution it automatically switch on run to the other monitor soo propably it gonna work similar to your settlers game at least try it.
Hi, I've tried all the patches on the internet I could find, including eriedlinger's patch and the DXGL patch, but nothing worked for me. I've checked the official GOG support page for the game, but to do the one thing that might help I had to access the game from the browser and not the installed app. However, the browser did not recognise that I already installed the game and wanted me to install it again and the fix only worked on installed games. After several hours of trying to find some solution so I could play my favourite game, I decided to fill the issue questionnaire, hoping someone from the stuff would help me. I waited a few hours and no one responded, but my laptop rebooted overnight, the window with the issue closed and now I can't find it anywhere. Please help?
