I have the CD version of Settlers 3, but I can't get it to work properly. As soon as I start the game it looks like this. Can't get rid of that border and if I click one of the corner pixels the game minimizes.The problem apparently only appears in Windows 8 and I couldn't find any solution.

It says that the GOG version is compatible, but I want to get sure before I buy: Can anyone confirm that this problem does not occur in the GOG version on Windows 8?

I played the GoG version of The Settlers 3 on Windows 8 and 8.1 without any problems at all. Well, except for the cd key bug at first start every time I install.

I cannot reproduce your bugs, but you might consider changing the graphic options in the SETUPS3.exe file located in the game dir. Maybe your monitor and/or graphics card can't display 640x480 properly (it looks to me that's the resolution you are using).

What graphics card and driver version are you using?

The game has some hitches with two monitors, but it's not a big deal.

Don't bother getting rid of that border, because you won't be able to. The gog version runs fine though.

Thanks for your help! Still can't get rid of the border, but I will buy the gog version then and hopefully be able to play this awesome game!
