Hey everybody,
I find myself replaying the first two LOM-games and think about how many similar games there are. The only one I know is Legions of Ashworld - a beautifully crafted hommage to LOM, but I found it way too hard to be enjoyable. And LOM: The Citadel isn't exactly a proper sequel.
Do you know other games so similar to LOM?

I know of only two games that use the "landscaping" technique, but they are not strategy games, but more like Adventure games, and they are real time: Runestone and Sorderon's Shadow.

Runestone is like LoM light; instead of armies, you recruit characters.

Sorderon's Shadow is one of the most ambition games made for the humble Speccy. It has a large world, with a vey large cast of colourful characters with their own agendas, day and night cycles, need to eat and drink, an advanced text parser, and lots of items to find and use. I never completed it, and thought it wasn't possible, but later I found walkthrough on the net.

ah yes, I forgot about these two! I've played them at some time but never got far in Sorderon, if I recall correctly. I'll give them another try.
Now I remember another one: Legends of the Land, a fanmade hommage to LOM, works with ZXSpin.

The date has to be a mistake, on his homepage, the developer writes he programmed the game in 1989 and released it in 1993. I've only tried it once, but I think I'll give it another try as it seems to have some interesting features. Please consult this two sites for more information.

Personally I don't think the remake will ever appear. And even if it did - I don't like the new graphics. I like the simplicity of black and white. :)

This thread is a bit old… but there is a recent game inspired in LOM:

Legions of Ashworld. It is available on Steam but there is no longer support for it.

There are also some remakes. And an online multiplayer game:

Really? Hard as heck but truly rewarding, man. Go for it, trust me and ya won't get disappointed. Ashworld rocks. ;)

Actually, it seems that Singleton used his landscaping technique in an arcade/strategy game named "Quake Minus 1" for C64 only. While definitely a different beast than LOM or DR, I think it is as brilliant as them and would deserve much more recognition. Give it a try!

I will try this, that's what I got my TheC64 Maxi for! :) Thanks for the hint.

There have been two other games released over the last years that share much with LoM: Silk and Solstice. Especially Solstice is a hommage to LoM and looks almost exactly like it but with many new features.
