Had he something to do concerning two parts of the trilogy becoming free? And something about the fate of the third possible part?

Yes. He's "making ‘Chilli Hugger Software’ officially dormant for the next six to twelve months." GOG instead requested that the games be kept available for free and Chris agreed. Check the blog. As mentioned he also open-sourced the code on GitHub!

Thanks, there was no fresh blog posts when I posted it.

Well, it's sad but let's keep hope. I tried to post a comment there to thank Chris and to cheer him up somehow but the site seems to have some technical issues.
