Mendax1989: Falcom should get rid of NISA.
Without NISA we would not even have a translation, so that does not help.

And that additional content? Just some bunny ears, ride-on's, "funny" costumes and more of that stuff. I could not care less if that stuff is sold separately to people that want to hop around like bunnies.

And yes - With such a enormous amount of lines to translate, typo's bound to be happen. The game runs great, but there are some bugs (links for instance). Those bugs are known and will be patched soon. Compared to some AAA titles that where released in a completely unfinished garbage state, this game actually did a good job. No really glaring in-your-face issues, crashes or ugly meshes. Just some small quality of life things that will be corrected soon.

So yeah. I rather have NISA than nothing at all. I have no idea what other company could do such a huge translation job and do it better than NISA. I am no fan of NISA (at all), but they are the only ones that could take this job and finish it within a reasonable time as far as I know (do not forget they also did the Crossbell arc and working at more at the same time)...

You serious? This is a false dichotomy. It's not "NISA or not one at all". I assure you there are better localizers out there. And they DIDN'T finish in a reasonable time. Reverie is way late. As will be Kuro and Kuro 2. It's also not just translation bugs. There's major bugs that are arguably gamebreaking. Multiple characters' link abilities just don't work. This port is in a very sorry state right now.
Unfortunately i can currently not play this game because my motherboard was malfunctioning some weeks ago so i was RMAing it. However, they told me it may take 2 months for it to get it "done", and with bad luck it may not even be working properly if i finally get it back.

Now i was ordering me a second "replacement board" in order to have a hardware-backup in the future, so, something like this mess may never happen again. However, even the newly ordered board is not arriving at all.., it still takes more than a dam month (swearing is totally allowed on such conditions) in order to ship me the new board. Ultimately, i simply have to wait for months to get a working PC, no matter how it is done.

They told me, all the RMA will get shipped to some place in Netherlands... i am sorry but this country is done... nothing works there. Maybe they should have shipped it to China instead, because even with a cargo-ship it may be done faster than this... My Notebook, i was ordering me as another backup (you can never have enough of backup... old IT rule never gets old) ... even this one will take over a month to arrive.

Okay, why am i telling all this on this unfit place? Basically a lot of stuff seems to suck somehow... we simply seems to have the wrong people on many critical spots on the industry.

Reading this... it is remembering me that nowadays no quality can be taken for granted anymore.

Anyway: Currently i am unable to test it and it seems i did not miss out on to much of good gameplay, considering those issues. I already was trying it out on my Office-Notebook (not that old) but no way you can play it there.

Weird enough, on "the other plattform" the people are actually pretty happy and they even adore NIS and their "quality" work, with just a few "bad reviews". GoG customers seems to be either more demanding or maybe not every version is broken, weird stuff.

As we all should know: Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure was a "official fan translation"... and if we did not wipe them out by "a great official translation that my not be that great at all" we would have been done with the newest title years ago already. Kinda like the newest Kuro no Kiseki Titles, which was EN translated almost instantly; and of course, without those "ripoff prices".

Okay, the "moaning" on "the other platform" is finally arriving... after some good play-time. I does not seem to be "quality work" so far, because most likely a software issue. I have to check if Durantes studio was even involved here because, if NIS themself was handling it... it surely sounds terrifying.

Lets read it:

I have to give this a negative until a patch happens.
For starters "link attack" instead of any other link level ability is literally a core mechanic of the game and is supposed to be a place holder for there skills but they aren't in this version of the game, just why?
Secondly, the status screen for crafts does not match the in game combat at all, the order they are in the status screen doesn't match and some of the ratios are off as well while in combat. It's like bad translation meets simple carrying the stats over.
Lastly, I will change this review once a patch comes out but I just barely got to ??? route after finishing the other 2. If what I have read from others and what I have noticed, anyone that wasn't from CSIV does not have links and that means ??? route is devoid of any meaning. Games should not launch and expect to be full price if they need to be patched after releasing and who knows how long that will take.

I love this series and love the games I just wish that when you are looking forward to a game and buy it, that it would actually WORK!

Keeps freezing between cutscenes and when travelling to different areas in LLoyd and C's routes.

Wait for a patch, and even then, proceed with caution.

PH3's excellent technical work (5+ hours at 1440p and ultra-ish settings on Arch Linux and more modest settings on the Steam Deck, no technical issues to speak of) is marred by NISA being NISA - link attacks are broken for most characters that weren't playable in Cold Steel III/IV, many arts/crafts/quartz/order descriptions are incorrect (and some S-crafts may not be doing the proper amount of damage, though I can't confirm that yet), and of course DLC that was bundled into the previous PC port is cut again to be sold separately. This game was clearly delayed to give the Zero and Azure localizations time to breathe, so it's disappointing to see that none of that extra time was spent on QA, when QA has always been NISA's most obvious weakness; the nickel-and-diming doesn't surprise me at all, considering how stingy NISA generally is.

That's your take on it. I disagree with you.
But if you know another company that can do the job, feel free to point that one out.
I am waiting...
I take the word instead of him/her: CLE (Cloud Leopard Entertainment) + fan-translation would have been way better than this, in fact... this version was out already 2 years ago... but GoG so far never got a CLE-Version so it is lacking DRM free... although, sad enough... it would be the supreme version.

Here is a very good review considering this matter "from that other shop". Besides CLE was as well releasing Kuro no Kiseki sooner already and fan-translations was out very quick too.

Let me be clear that Trails into Reverie is a very good game, and I highly recommend you play all of the previous Trails games before touching it.

This negative review is because this company, NISAmerica, made us wait 3 years, charge a $60°°° price tag, and gave us a trash version of this game. If you want to play, purchase the JP/CN/KOR version of this game published by Cloud Leopard Entertainment and use an English patch.

The western version of game was announced in 2020, with a release date set to 2023.

Trails into Reverie or the Japanese title Hajimari no Kiseki was released in Japan in 2020.

This is 3 years the West had to wait and what did they get for it?

- Poor optimization, bugs, crashes...Oh My! -

It will say it's Steam Deck verified, and let me say as a Steam Deck user, it's a load of BS. The FPS in this game drops in battle constantly.

Link battles do not work properly on some characters. Link Battles are the most important aspect of the game's combat system and they screw it up.

You will see a few characters with "Link Attack" on every line. This doesn't do anything and in fact the battles affected by this is bugged

Character's damage in battle is completely bugged.

The game crashes even on Steam Deck.

Fishing crashes the game.

- Mediocre localization -

They had ONE job to translate this game. All they had to do was translate the game.

Descriptions of items, characters, monsters, and attacks etc are completely wrong.

Twist the literal translation to add headcannons and cringy outdated memes in character dialog

Change original names that already have a literal translation (Sword Maiden in JP is Beauty's Blade in english)

They didn't seem to have translated anything. They literally copied and pasted stuff from Cold Steel 4.

Change titles that already had an English name (Cross story in the original JP version is now Trails to Walk.)

This is one year after they sent a cease and desist letter to a fan translation group that the community has relied on for years: Zero Field

Zero Field has done literal translations. NISA has put childish memes in their "localization."

Keep in mind the Cloud Leopard Entertainment client DID NOT have these bugs. And it was released 2 years ago

Falcom makes amazing games.

NISAmerica ruins everything they touch.

Please do not waste your time and money buying any titles by NISAmerica.

°°° For the cheapest entry-level version, the most expensive version can cost up to 3 times more than this.

OK, lets spread even more light into those matters and what NIS actually did regarding this game:

This is one year after they sent a cease and desist letter to a fan translation group that the community has relied on for years: Zero Field

OK. whats Zero Field? Well, basically the "fan translator" group able to make a better job and they have been DMCA-ed, so a "copyright-infrigement" handed out by NIS, reason for this fan-translation-site to be "shut down".

Some good hints:

https:/.../www.reddit.com/r/Falcom/comments/x3am9b/nisa_messages_zerofield_about_copyright/

The only real question left: Why is no one except NIS taking it over to GoG anymore? Because CLE is entirely focused on the chinese market and on GoG there is almost no Chinese-community at all. Best deal is to find a "better" publisher for the "western market", and if no one can do it... trying to lure CLE into publishing it here, it could be with higher demand than expected.

If NIS still is continuing... they have to improve A LOT and acting less greedy...
I just can tell to Falcom, this is spreading some dark light toward this series and it might not be toward their best interest.

(Sword Maiden in JP is Beauty's Blade in english)
Ooops, this is a fatal translation mistaken, because those 2 words got a completely different meaning. I am not a native english speaker but even with my limited english skills this is a no go.

Most of those issues seems to be fixed now... "seems", i am currently unable to test it:

Regular Update Tue, July 11

Version 1.0.3 Release Notes
Link attacks, some crash fixes, wider CPU compatibility, VR optimization, and more
Hi everyone,

we've been quite busy over the past few days in order to be able to resolve some of the more important issues encountered in Trails into Reverie.

Here is a summary of the changes and fixes in version 1.0.3:

Fix some characters missing their link attacks
.
Fix two separate instances of potential crashes on some systems
in the Magical Girl Alisa minigame.
Disable AVX
in order to support very old or lower-end CPUs.
Improve GPU-bound performance in VR by 20%
or more by leveraging the hidden area mesh.
Fix the button prompt shown in the battle change tutorial (yes, we missed one).
Fix the alignment of the "Trails to Walk" HuD in ultrawide aspect ratios.
Fix the letterboxing of a specific subset of image-based story scenes in <16:9 resolutions.

You can now get back to the game, or read on for more details regarding some of these points.

So, most likely the game should run fine with the newest version (released yesterday)

However... the probably worse translation will stay... but from the tech point of view, if the game is mostly fixed now then it is in a good shape.

Besides: It was not NIS, it was "Durante"...
