Something I find a bit curious is that I need to use the right mouse button for every menu including the main menu.
Seems more intuitive to me to use the left mouse button for clicking around in menus.

Is it intended as is or is that a bug?

You'll need to map it yourself in the config. All the gamepad controls are mapped to button 1 by default too. Kinda shoddy.
