Yesterday, XSeed not only comfirmed a release date for the third game, but also dropped another bombshell: the 6th and 7th games in the series, known as Trails of Cold Steel I and II in the west, are being ported to PC and since they didn't mention Steam exclusiveness it's very likely these games will be released on GOG as well.
Great news. I always wanted to play Trails in the Sky, but was waiting when the whole trilogy is released.
Rejoice, fellow TLoH fans! The time has come!
To complete this information about Trails in the Sky the 3rd :
@XSEEDGames
It'll be priced $29.99/29.99€/$24.99, and be 10% off during the 1st week.
I wonder if both will be available here. For 3rd it's pretty obvious, it will be good if Trais of Cold Steel will be available here as well.
I only hope 3rd will still work on Win XP.

I was expecting they would port 4th and 5th to PC too(they have the same graphics style of 1st~3rd, right?).
So The 3rd is coming to Steam may 3 (two days!).

But when will it come to GOG?

It is not in the database yet..
Pretty likely the same day, just like the first two games.

Trails in the Sky is the trilogy, isn't it? At least I hope so, because I am waiting for the full thing to be released so I could start playing :)

Legend of Heroes itself has many games, some are interconnected in trilogies and such, and some aren't.
Really surprised that Trails in the Sky the 3rd hasn't been updated on the GOG database yet. Holding back on any purchases on any other store just for this release.

As for Trails of Cold Steel... I believe that a different outfit (not XSEED) is bringing that to the PC? Are we absolutely sure that we shall be getting that installment on GOG?

No, all Trails games are part of the same story.

It's kinda complex. The most recent 7 "Legend of Heroes" games (plus the upcoming one in Japan) have all been part of the "Trails"-subseries, which take place on the same continent. It's divided into 3 separate arcs. The first two Trails games, which are Trails in the Sky and Trails in the Sky Second Chapter, comprise the first story arc. Both are available on GOG and the second game does a decent job tying up most loose ends from the first game. The third game, which releases tomorrow is a bridge game between the first story arc and the other story arcs, though it has the same cast as the first two games. It's not truly the finale of a trilogy.

The fourth and fifth game (unofficially called Trails to Zero and Trails to Azure) make up the second story arc and take place in another country on the same continent and are currently Japan-only.

The sixth and seventh game, as well as the upcoming eight game, (Trails of Cold Steel I, II and III) take place in yet another country on the same continent and were released for PS3 and Vita in the west. Last month, PC ports for both (which presumably will make it to GOG) were announced by XSeed.

Each story arc can be somewhat of a "jump-in" point, though due to later games containing a lot of references to earlier games, it's best to start with the earlier games.

You could have started playing the moment Trails in the Sky Second Chapter came out.

No, it's definitely XSeed doing (or rather contracting out) the port for Cold Steel. They also said they were porting it to PC, not to Steam. So the chances of a GOG version are pretty good.

And what about gameplay succession? Can you transfer save data to 4th game and start at Lv. 150 with some bonuses, or 4th game starts totally anew?

E.g., Phantasy Star games are also interconnected, but you can't transfer save data, so they are counted as totally different games despite having the same story ark.

Brilliant! Doing a "proper" playthrough of Trails in the Sky FC and SC... Really trying to optimize orbment setup for all characters that I shall keep carrying over. The mission being that both and the Third should be completed right on time for Trails of Cold Steel I to appear.

Carry-over between games is usually rather limited. Between the first and the second game, the protagonist's level carried over IF it was between 35 and 40. (otherwise, it would be set to those values) All the other party members later join at set levels. Depending on your final rank at the end of the first game, you get a couple of items at the start of the second game and if you completed certain quests, the npcs you helped will remember you and if you help them again in the second game they'll sometimes give you bonus items because you've helped them multiple times.

Since the third game has a different protagonist (who was a party member in the second game), no levels carry over. Your final rank in the second game is all that's exported and depending on how well you did, you get some items near the start of the third game.

There's no carry-over between story arcs, since they take place in neighbouring countries with a different cast of characters. That said, unlike the Phantasy Star games, which took place centuries apart, the Trails games take place in a span of years. The first game starts in the year 1202, the 4th game (the start of the second arc) takes place 2 years later and to make it even more complicated the 6th game (start of the third arc) ALSO takes place 2 years after the first game, but in a different country and with a different cast. Basically, the 2nd and 3rd story arcs run parallel to each other, so you get to see two sides of the same conflict...somewhat.
