So I went ahead and killed the Prime Warlord to get started on bringing the Burlust into the federation.
They then decided to have an internal power struggle, and somehow, this lead to them bringing 90% of their race's total armada down on top of the Skylaxians.
It's about 900 to 100 and I have no idea what I can do to save the Skylaxians. I'm pretty sure they can't last the 60M to the end of the war. The Burlust Armada is too well armed and too numerous for me to defeat.
Would bombing the Burlust troops from orbit help at all?

Unfortunately no, the Burlurst go after anyone they think they can squish. If you can find a third race with diplomacy powers you might be able to shut down warfare for a bit. Andors and Acutians can do that, but the right people need to be in charge and it might not work on the Burlurst in turmoil.

You can buy the Skylaxians some time by handing them war and industrial techs, or by stealing an outpost and leasing it to them.
