Like most DOSBOX re-releases, the default virtual sound hardware for The Immortal is the Adlib sound card. The music I'm most familiar with is the Mega Drive port's music, which I thought was very good, better than the DOS Adlib music, but some probably know of the MUNT virtual hardware for Roland sound cards. The Scumm Virtual Machine for adventure games (Sierra, LucasArts etc.) uses MUNT so it's easy to play games on the that with the best music, but The Immortal won't run on Scumm, so you have to set up MUNT with DOSBOX. The Roland MT-32 music is very good, probably better than the Mega Drive's music.

How do you set it up so that it plays the MT-32 music? I've installed MUNT, acquired the ROMs, gone into the DOSBox configuration and changed midiconfig to the appropriate value, but this doesn't change the music. Am I missing something?
Hi. Sorry for the bump, but I've just stumbled upon this.

The DOSBOX config file bundled with the game is already configured for the emulation of a Roland card (in fact, is ready for emulate any other soundcard).

However, as specified in the game's reference card, you need to "force" the game to use the Roland.

The way to do that is simply editing the file "dosbox_immortal_single.conf", which is located in the game folder, and adding the roland keyboard right after "immortal.exe". This is how the file should look after editing it:

[ipx]
# ipx: Enable ipx over UDP/IP emulation.

ipx=false

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
# You can put your MOUNT lines here.
@echo off
cls
mount c ".."
c:
cls
immortal.exe roland
exit
