There is so much to be admired about this game, but having suffered my way up the learning curve, I can't help feeling it's fundamentally broken.

1. The user interface, IMO, is pretty bad. Precise quantities in one's inventory aren't displayed unless one clicks on an item's icon. Just one example of many irritations.

2. By far and away, the biggest problem has to be setting automatic routes for carts. I cannot, for the life of me, get this to work properly. Having to manually click-to-unload every single market delivery is very tedious and, IMO, makes what could otherwise have been a great game virtually unplayable.

I mean, am I missing something about automating routes for carts? Am I not doing it properly? I've done the tutorial twice, I've carefully read the relevant sections of the manual, and I've double checked all my in-game settings. Nothing seems to work!

Desperately trying to like this game... I'd be very apprecative to anyone who can help me!

PLay as a thief/robber. much more fun.

Also, marry the rich. A spouse of mine died and left me 311k pounds and 2 houses worth 60k combined.
Great, thanks for the tip! Goodbye, clicking-and-dragging!

1) For most ingame items/icons, holding the right mouse button will give you a detailed information about the item/icon. Not sure if quantity is also said there, but at least for the stores you should be able to just hover the mouse over the item, and it will tell you how many there are.
2) Choose a cart, then choose trade route. Click on your business, then edit waypoint. Click load, choose the item, then click and hold on the item until a slider appears. The slider is the maximum number of items the cart will load. Then, click on the marketplace and click Add Waypoint, followed by Edit Waypoint. Click unload, select the goods you've selected in Waypoint 1, and then click and hold to select how many to unload. If you also want to set a buying route for the return trip, click load, select what to buy, click and hold to set how many, and then click on your business again to set the unload item/quantity/

Hope this helps
Thanks so, so much; unbelievably helpful. Going to give this game another try now. I really appreciate you taking the time!

Bumped
I'm having the same issue and I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Load and Unload at both destinations has the green bar on the left of each icon full (set at 15). I would hope that this means the cart would load as much as 15 iron and unload all the rapiers it's carrying but the situation is that it won't unload its rapiers unless I do it manually, and it only buys 2 or 3 iron even if more is available and I have the money.
