It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I'm sure it's just a glitch but sure would like some input.
This is an issue, along with the fact that the game isn't installing correctly with all the DLCs purchased.
On Twitter, GOG spoke about this issue with the following response:

"It's a false positive. We always thouroughly check each game before releasing them".

I hope i helped!

Even though I've played yesterday with no warnings from Windows Defender, today for the first time (maybe my OS got updated Defender definitions?) I got a popup from Windows Defender (on Windows 10 Pro 64bit).

The popup is about PUA:Win32/Puamson.A!ml (Category: Potentially Unwanted Software, Alert Level: Low) for file: Games\The Binding of Isaac Rebirth\isaac-ng_launcher.exe

The linked "more info" Microsoft page is:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/threats/malware-encyclopedia-description?name=PUA%3aWin32%2fPuamson.A!ml&threatid=250069

I know that such warnings for new software are more of than not false positives (which seems to be confirmed by the above referenced tweet response), but I thought I'd write my experience.

Same here. "PUA:Win32/Puamson.A!ml" found in "isaac-ng_launcher.exe".
bitdefender just popped up to say isaac-ng_launcher.exe, The Binding of Isaac - Rebirth.lnk and Launch The Binding of Isaac - Rebirth.lnk were viruses

Same here,

I tried to download through GOG Galaxy and through my favorite web browser....
Same result

Does anyone know why this 'false positive' is triggered?

I know someone whith the same antivirus as me, actually playing Isaac Repentance without a care in the world.

could you clarify that please?

I guess they don't plan to fix it

I guess you are right
Sucks that they don't plan on fixing it. I enjoyed the game on Steam and was excited to play it on GOG. I did get to play a little of it before the false positive.
Maybe someone who works in IT or has some general knowledge regarding system security can answer my question.

I'm on Windows 10. Windows Defender flags the BOI-Rebirth .exe file as a potential unwanted program (first it was Win32/Puamson.a!ml, now it flags it as Win32/Uwamson.a!ml - it's supposed to be adware, as far as I understand).

I launched the game twice before Defender started to block the executable, so theoretically, if the game were to be actually infected with malware, my system would already be compromised.

Now I know it's most certainly false positive but my problem is this:

If I allow the game executable as an exception, does that mean, that I'd create a vulnerability i.e. my system would be more succeptible to the Puamson/Uwamson malware infection coming either from a different program or a drive-by malware attack while browsing the internet? Or is whitelisting the game only adds that one specific executable as a exception and doesn't really have any impact on how my anti-virus works?
