If you get this message, try running game in DirectX 11 -mode with command. You can edit this to the desktop shortcut:
tharsis.exe -force-d3d11
Developers did originally release the game in DirectX 11 -mode, but patched it to DirectX 9 to make it more compatible with older hardware. Maybe they rushed it and missed something that causes rare bug in some systems, because at least on my PC it DX9 mode didn't work at all. I have played many other DX9 games without any issues.
As far as I know, there is harm forcing it back to DX11, I already played the game few times and finished story mode once.
