I have a coblat shield with +5 armor, and an obsidian skull with +4 armor.
I have the option to combine them to make an obsidian shield. My question is, will I get a +9 armor or the current stats don't have any effect on the outcome ?

No, they won't stack. And you will have to reforge the new item to get the bonus you want.

By the way: maximum defense modifier is +4. Cobalt shield adds 1 defense bonus no matter what modifier it has.

I think I will keep them for now, thanks.
