Is there anything special to do with the new Golden Animals introed in 1.3?

It says you can consume them but for what purpose. I suppose I could just make them pets but I feel I'm missing out on something.

You just put them in a box? They are shiny.
I figured "consumable" just means it gets "consumed" when you use it to craft an animal cage. o.0 Frogs are consumable and there doesn't seem to be anything you can do with them other than put them in a box.
The gold animals sell for a fair amount of gold, it seems.

They're worth 10g to a vendor, as well. I find them to be rather silly-looking in a terrarium, so that's what I normally do with them.
