Problem: The game crashes while the first loading screen with loading bar appear. The bar nearly finishes the loading animation, but the result is CTD. This happens nevertheless of the patch (modpack or out-of-box).

I'm running the game on Win7 32bit & Nvidia GF7800GT.

I've tried scouring the Internet for more information regarding the crash but thus far I've discovered nothing.

Help, pretty please?

I'm having the same issue. I think it's something to do with the movies since disabling the intro movie will at least get me to the main menu and the opening area.

After that though I get the same crash when i try to transition my party to the next area (something about a DLL).
If your on win7 have you installed directx 9.0c installer before with either an older game or from the microsoft website?

Also have you tried the compatibility options accessed from rightclicking the shortcut and going to properties?
Try turning off antialiasing. It helps if you have problems with cinematics.

Are you running D3DOverrider, I had the same issue and shutting that off corrected it.
I'm having the same issue as well on Win7 64bit. This one has me stumped since nothing I've tried seems to work from the basics like different compatibility options, running as admin., and uninstalling and reinstalling as admin. just to be sure. To installing patches and patched versions of temple.dll, checking directx (I have 9.0c installed). I've even tried disabling any software that might by a long shot be causing an issue up to an including my antivirus because of the original false positive it gave me on the game. I'd love to find out if anyone else finds a solution to this.
For me, Right-Click, Run As Administrator fixed the issue. Win7 64 bit.
In my case the game freezes on the loading screen at: "Initializing Sector Data". Tried to run as administrator, compatibility mode, and tried different Co8 modules to troubleshoot if it was the modpack that was the culprit. On a hunch I disabled my Anti Virus just to test if it would run then and sure enough that was what happened! Created an exclusion rule just for the game and now I'm able to finally enjoy this game!
Actions that have failed:

- Turning off anti-aliasing did nothing.
- Running as administrator didn't help.
- Compatibility modes didn't help.
- Turning off the movies didn't help.
- I'm not running D3DOverrider.
- I disabled my AV (avast! AV) and it didn't help. Tried to play around with the firewall (ComodoFW) with no results.

I can see the video which shows the logos of Atari, Troika and WotC. After that it either crashes to desktop or shows me the loading screen. Then, the game crashes to the desktop. The crash is similar to the poster above: the game crashes when the loading bar reaches "Initializing Sector Data" phase.

People with nvidia cards: if you have a 7x series card or something similar, what drivers are you using?

Please, if you get any other ideas I could try please post them.

I'm having the same problem, but it seems to happen when I try to change resolutions in game. I also have Windows 7 64 bit edition.
I put in my resolutions backwards once when editting the cfg file, i.e. 720x1280 as opposed to 1280x720 and that broke in the same location you mention - right after the videos.

I am running the latest Win7 64-bit nvidia drivers on a macbook in bootcamp with a geforce 9600GT
That is different. I can see the loading bar reach "Initializing Sector Data". It hangs there for a second or two and crashes to the desktop.

I've tried multiple different resolutions with no results. Also, the resolution settings are correct in the configuration file. Height and width are correctly set.

I tried the two newest nvidia drivers with no results. Reverted back to 196 series.

This shit is wrecking my nerves. The first game from GOG which actually doesn't work on my computer.

Same for me,except I have a ATI Radeon not Nvidia. I tried everything under the sun to get it to run, finally just gave up. This has become my first unplayable GOG.
If the problem is Video
And you checked drivers and Direct X

Have you considered a codec update

Obviously if its not crashing at video - then ignore that comment
Having heard that this game was rather buggy, I actually tried out the demo before hand to make sure it would work on my PC OK - it ran without a hitch.

So you can imagine my surprise when the first time I try to load up the full game I get dumped straight back to my desktop.

I've tried fiddling with my antivirus and firewall. I've tried altering the video settings. I've tried installing and reinstalling the game in a variety of locations on my PC. I've tried installing patches. I've tried installing mods. I've tried installing the latest drivers for my video card. I've tried every option available on the compatibility mode tab.

In short I've tried everything I can think of and followed up on every suggestion\work-around that I've encountered online and nothing has worked. Not a blink of progress.

Its very disheartening.

The only thing left to do really is register my frustrations here in the vain hope that GOG will look into this. I'll keep bashing my head against this problem in the mean time - just in case I find some sort of work around - but it doesn't look hopeful.

MY SPECS - Just in case this info proves useful
I'm running windows XP (service pack 2, 32 bit). My graphics card is a Nvidia 8600 GTS. My processor is a 3600, single core, with 3gigs of ram.
