Does anyone know how to Install Circle of Eight Mod Pack on Mac?

I have downloaded all the files from GOG and CO8, but exe files do not run on Macs. How do I get from
Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_8.0.0_New_Content_Edition_Setup.exe to playing the Mod?
Co8 modpack is only made for Windows or Linux systems - see their info page here.

So you'll have to start up your mac in Windows mode, then install everything as if you were doing it with a Windows machine.
I didn't read this thread that closely, but here is one from gog:

http://www.gog.com/forum/temple_of_elemental_evil/co8_mod_and_apply_mac

I'm guessing that this would work with the 'Mac' version that gog sells, as they usually wrap their Mac versions of games in either Wine or Boxer. Like I said though, just a guess. Good luck!
This method should also work. Drop the two CoE mods onto the drive_c link and they will show up at C:\ under "Command Line Shell".

Melhelix also posted some guidelines on installing mods on Mac in General, but I don't recall which thread.

So this seems to explain what you need to do:

It's way beyond my skills. The best I have been able to do is get this file into the addons folder:

Circle of Eight Modpack 8.0.1 New Content.tam

No. That's talking about using the Windows version on Mac before GOG added a Mac version.

It should be a matter of Show Package Contents, dropping the mods onto drive_c and running Winskin.app tool to execute them. You should try it before giving up. I can probably look at it myself in a few days.

Thanks but I have no problem extracting the Circle of 8 mod in the package. My issue is, after I run the mod pack, the only change is that this file is in the add ons folder:

Circle of Eight Modpack 8.0.1 New Content.tam

I understand that this is a file that can run in windows (with java?) and linux, but I have no idea how to get it working on a mac - except possibly the way that the person in the co8 forum has suggested.

The issue that I have is this doesn't happen:

"Follow all on-screen promps. After the modpack has been deployed, the Circle of Eight front end utility, TFE-X, will automatically launch." There is no TFE-X, I think it might be inside the "tam" file.

Ah, no your problem is that's just the patch. The actual mod is 495mb. You need to download 8.0.0, install it and then install the 8.0.1 patch.

Ah, I see, I misread this link "--> DOWNLOAD <-- | For Circle of Eight Modpack 8.0.0 New Content Edition" as meaning "click here to download the 8.0.0 modpack" rather than "clear here to get the patch for the 8.0.0 modpack".

I'll see how I go.

Thank you so much.

OK, now I tried the correct mod. Installed it ok, but when I try to run TFE-X.exe I get this message "This application requires Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0".

I think that might be the problem. I don't think Java works in wine?

I just installed the latest Window's version of Java in wine and successfully activated CoE. Believe the current version of TFE-X.exe actually wants Java 7, 1.7.x. Click on the Yes button even if it appears grayed out.

Ok, I'll have to google how to install java...

In case you are still looking: download Java (choose other OS/All Java downloads - Windows offline), Show Package Contents, copy to ToEE drive_c link, run Wineskin.app and choose Advanced-Install other software or command line tool to run the Java install. Profit.

FYI, I used the Standard Edition, but New Content will be the same for this.

Sweet, I got it working!

Thank you so much for your patience.

I will try to post a something that will hopefully explain to people who are as clueless as me how to do this. I'll be sure to give your credit for your help :)

Thanks again

I was actually going to suggest that you do just that. I'm sure other Mac gamers would benefit from it.
