Judging from all the comments and the hoops people need to go through to get this game to work....

Well

I think this game in my opinion is going to need to be temporarily taken down from the gog store until a studio can pick the game up, and give the revision it needs.

The Temple of Elemental Evil is only going to get worse as time goes on as software changes over time.

Though I'm fully aware plenty of other older games on GOG also have issues, but the issues for this particular game seem quite extensive, and might need a major makeover to be more up to standard.

Troika went out of business so that's very unlikely.

Thus why I suggested that a studio try to pick this up if the IP can still be obtained in some way.

Hopefully the coding of the game isn't too ancient to figure out how it ticks to make the much needed changes.

Well, I wouldn't mind a few improvements - but why take it down from the store?
I can't speak for others, but my personal experiences with ToEE are not worse than those with many other older games. And I appreciate that we have a platform which cares about "good old games", and, in many cases, makes them playable on modern PCs (often with issues, but at least playable).
I found that the GOG version works reasonably well. It's the original game plus the second official patch plus a predecessor of a main component of the Co8 mod.
GOG version with Co8 works at least as well as the GOG version alone. And GOG version + Co8 + Temple+ offer a lot of improvements, but a few new problems, too - on the other hand, Temple+ is still being patched and improved, thanks to the efforts of highly motivated people. The installation of the 3 modules is straightforward (although that of the Co8 mod takes quite long, and switching between the original ToEE and ToEE+Co8 takes long, too). There may be a better way to implement the functionality of the Co8 mod - but it's not required to play, and we should be glad that we have it rather than complain about its shortcomings.
I do appreciate to have the choice between 3 different versions, all having their advantages and disadvantages. Several (or many) others have reported severe issues, but this shouldn't be a reason to make this game unavailable (even for a limited period of time) for other interested people.
