I just don't get computer language. I tried to install the mod the best I could and I could get it to work. It is so aggravating (tried twice), yet should be so simple.

It said that I needed to install in the root folder. It also said if it wasn't the root folder I needed to install the patch 2. However, it said gog installed all the patches. I tried both address (the one on the Co8 forum) and the one I had and both didn't work.

I uninstalled the av anti virus. I put avast on hold and it still didn't work. I tried running as admin, that didn't work either.

So disappointed. I want to play the game bug free and can't. I'm just not good at this sort of stuff.

I hope gog can just put it into the game themselves.

Any help?

I would uninstall everything and start over. Reinstall the game first then run the Co8 setup (the latest version
I think is 7.8.0 NC). Now find the folder where Co8 was installed too and open it. Copy all the files to the game folder.
Should be something like C:\gog.com\temple of elemental evil. Find the file called TFE-X.exe and run it. It will set some things up the first time you use it so let it finish. This is also the file you will use to start the game from now on, it will open a new launcher where you can select to play the new content or the original. You can change some other settings as well in the launcher so be warned.

Don't install any patches.

Install Co8, if I remember correctly, it asks where ToEE is installed, show the location.

I installed under C:/Program Files/GOG.com/Temple of Elemental Evil (from the website). The first one didn't seem to install with the rest of the game. So I manully searched for the game files by going to the address where I play the game. C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil. Both didn't work.

I have Windows 7 Asus laptop if that helps.

With Win7 Program Files is a protected directory, which can sometimes cause problems for older games and also when attempting to modify these installations (such as applying large mods to them). Follow Jarmo's advice and uninstall everything, then reinstall ToEE to a location other than Program Files, then point the Co8 installer to the location where ToEE is installed.

Well, I'm confused all the other gog games are the same program files.

What do you mean by programs? There is "Programs" and Program data."

I was going to just download it in the "Downloads" section. Would that work?

Also I do like everything to be under "gog" in the startup menu (I don't use short cuts...as it clutters the main screen). Is there any why to link it to there when I want to place just for order sake?

Program Files has been the default location for program installs since Win95, which is why the GOG installers use that as the installation directory by default. However, starting with Windows Vista certain limitations were put on how data there could be modified, and this causes problems with some older programs. Some of the more recent GOG installs actually use a different default installation directory as a result of this.

History aside, it's doesn't matter where you download the installer to, it matters where you install the game to when you run the installer. Upon running the installer select "Options", which will allow you to specify the directory to which the game is installed. The default location is "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil", but you should change this to something like "C:\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil". Once you've done this and the installation is finished then download and run the Co8 installer, and point it to the "C:\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil" location where you just installed the game.

Ok at I tried it again and got the same message:


"Startup Error:
Error You must run ToEEFE X from the Temple of Elemental Evil root folder.

If you are running ToEEFE X from the root ToEE folder and are still getting this error, please make sure you have the official Patch 2 installed before trying again."

It sounds like you didn't actually install Co8 to the correct ToEE directory. The error you're getting is from TFE-X, which runs automatically (to convert your install of ToEE to Co8) once the files from Co8 have been installed. However, if the files for Co8 weren't installed to the correct ToEE directory then you'll get the error that you're getting now.

Just to make sure of things, what directory have you installed ToEE to, and what directory did you point Co8 to when you installed it?

C:\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil the one you told me to install too for both. I made sure.

When I right click on ToEE from the start up menu, to programs and then gog ToEE and give myself the address it gives me: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\GOG.com\Temple of Elemental Evil

This probably won't help.

When I installed the Co8 mod, I moved the setup.exe file into the Temple of Elemental Evil folder before running it.

I downloaded the 385 mb file "Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_7.8.0_NC_Setup.exe" and moved it directly the Temple of Elemental Evil folder. Then I double clicked the file and followed the instructions. It worked for me.

This mod makes the game more difficult and does not fix some very serious bugs.

It doesn't fix bugs? I thought it was supposed to....

I have Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_7.8.0_Setup.exe there is no NC in there.
