I noticed Telling Lies was being updated while I was doing something else. I restarted the game just now and got a black screen. Before the update I had no problems whatsoever. Anybody know what's going on here?

I had the same issue after the update. Quit and restart the game fixed it for me.

Afraid that didn't work for me. :( I also verified the game files, restarted the computer, but no dice.

Same problem here. First time starting the game and I only get a black screen. No sound, no reactions. Restart doesn't help.

I hit that same issue. Several restarts didn't fix it so I went poking around and started tweaking some of the Windows Registry settings and it started to work. I ended up just deleting the whole "Telling Lies" branch, and it remained working (getting fresh values on the next run). The settings I found were at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Annapurna Interactive\Telling Lies
