I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why ToME (latest version) wasn't running right on my Mac, when I decided to try the free version downloadable from tome4.org, instead of the GOG one I own -- and then the game worked just fine, with no difference in configuration/settings!
So something must be being lost in translation in the GOG packaging, I'm afraid. Here's the specific issues I was encountering:
1. The game would not exit cleanly, and had to be force quit every time after exiting (whether from in game or the main menu).
2. The game would stop recognizing keyboard input entirely after using the mouse to aim an ability, and would have to be restarted before it would work again as far as I could tell.
3. And worst of all, in general the game would have trouble consistently registering keystrokes--every couple of seconds, you'd have to press a key multiple times before it would "take", leading to button mashing that is very dangerous to do in a roguelike game :)
Anyway, as the vanilla version from tome4.org does not have these issues, I'm just going to use it for now... but I thought I would let you guys know!
