the release date for system shock was set to be august 31 when i preordered it like a week ago. That means within a single digit number of days from the release date, they delayed it with no announcement. And I don't believe for a second that the new date of December 31, 2021 is real either, that reeks of a placeholder date because they dont want to outright admit that this game won't be done until 2022 or later.

Yep, I agree. This is not good enough. I'll get a refund, and order again later.

I did the exactly thing myself. Even pushed to make sure I had this game pre-ordered so I could also get the enhanced edition. I just happened to look on my account this even and noticed that the release date was in like 129 days or something.

*sight* situations like this is why no one really should preorder anything.

Yup, I preordered to get the enhanced edition, and because i foolishly trusted that if a release date's been posted, it means something. I haven't been using gog for that long, so I naively assumed that if a game has a release date set, that means things are like, set to go, confirmed. At least I know for the future now. The fact that there hasn't even been any communication or acknowledgement from nightdive about this is really not a good sign. I'm half expecting the game to be silently cancelled and delisted from storefronts before december 31. Or who knows, maybe the date will just keep getting pushed ahead forever in the hopes that we'll eventually forget about it.
I was right to wait and not preorder.
Never preorder anything, it's the best way to give them the ability to get lazy.
It sucks, i was really looking forward to the end of the month for this. However, if it needs more time it's probably best they spend it polishing up the product. We all know how Cyberpunk got a massive backlash for releasing before it was fully cooked (still a decent game in my opinion though).
And at least we'll get System Shock 2 enhanced edition for free for pre-ordering.
Yes, this is definitely bad news. I left my weekend on 4-5 free of all plans to play the remaster.
Hope there is some apology post and maybe they'll tell us what the reason is.

I hope you are mistaken but history of game delays shows otherwise...
I don't think Nightdive has announced a release date, while there might be a release date posted on GOG that does not serve as a set in stone release date. If you are getting mad at Nightdive over this you are directing your anger at the wrong person. Heck just going over to steam you can see that it doesn't have a release date yet. Go to the System Shock kickstarter and there is no mention of a release date. Go to Nightdivestudios.com and there is no mention of a release date. Go to Nightdive studios twitter and there is no mention of an upcomming release date. The oversight here isn't on anyone but yourselves for thinking it was going to randomly be released with 0 hype and 0 marketing. So be angry at yourself for not doing even the tinniest bit of web searching or inquring into an actual release date. I was also thinking it was coming out this week but after coming to this reasoning I can now see the folly of that. Like why would they just randomly release it without having the littlest bit of PR, wheter it be a featured banner on GOG or Steam or a tweet.
Hmmmm I wonder if I should refund it and call it a day
What the hell happened? Nightdive needs to explain why this was delayed. No announcement at all, not even on Twitter?

If I wasn't already in for System Shock 2 Enhanced I would refund this right away. If it gets delayed again I am 100% refunding this title. I'll just get SS2EE later in that case, if VR is ever implemented like they said it would be.

Disappointed :(

edit: Chit rightly pointed out that no other platform has a release date, just GOG. At least that explains the "why" but I really don't understand why GOG hasn't set a "coming soon" release date option to eliminate that confusion. Either way if it doesn't come out this year I'll probably still refund it. I preordered based on that release date, however incorrect it may have been.

Then that kind of begs the question who exactly set that release date. From what I've seen GOG themselves don't just arbitrarily set those. I've got about 5 titles/DLCs on my wishlist that are only given a release date of 'coming soon'. I don't recall exactly when I first saw the 31st of August planned release date but I do remember it was towards the beginning of the year.
wow, i know that nightdive is a small studio but this really came as a real surprise without any type of warning.
I guess it's true that no other platform has any release date but i was really looking foward to play this august, i even saved up my money... well, i hope that the game that comes out will be the best it can be, i trully belive in their work, but i'm not holding my breath.
Oh no, not again D:

Yeah i think it was around April or late March. I thought to myself, i'll pre-order closer to that date. And i did. I'll probably stick to the pre-order though. But i wouldn't have made the purchase either if not for that date.
