Talk about underwhelming ending!

(Spoilers)
I got through the Many level (worst level I have played in a videogame in last 5 years, easy), then went through Citadel recreation (this was fantastic) and then I killed Shodan.
And what happened next ? 4 seconds after I killed her, I got unceremoniously dropped into Main Menu screen, with no outro, no credits, no nothing.
I do not know if it is a bug of GOG version or of some mod I have (I use most of those recommended by Voodoo47), but that sucked. Had to watch the ending and credits on youtube (pretty hilariously awful).

The rest of the game was flawless technically - not a single bug/crash. I also used AODB (or whats its name) mod.

Anyone had this issue?
probably the rare video not working bug. there is a fix in the sticky, but at this point, I would just watch the outtro on youtube.
You can also watch the videos directly in the cutscenes folder, found in the following location by default:

C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2\Data\cutscenes

...or wherever you installed it to. :)

Yeah I tried that, but I can only hear sound, picture does not play. In game, all videos except the last one worked perfectly. I have CCCP installed as the only codec package. Oh well, I already watched in on youtube anyway...and I am done with the game.
Did you have Format Factory installed?

TaxAkla: Did you have Format Factory installed?
Never heard of it until now, so no.
I know you're done with the game, but if you open the main menu and click INTRO - does it work?

It sounds like you have a problem with the codec. There's a fix for it, but like you said you're done with the game.

The problem is that the codec used in the game was written in 1996. Yes NINETY six, so 17 years ago. It's always been a quirky thing to get work in new versions of windows. The GOG launcher is supposed to have that fix, did you use it or did you launch the game directly?

Anyway, did you at least enjoy the game? :)
The version of the engine GOG is using (NewDark) uses FFmpeg to play videos, so it shouldn't make any difference what Windows codecs anyone does or does not have installed.

The intro from the main menu works perfectly. Every single video in the game worked perfectly except the outro/credits.

Anyway, yeah the game was great, apart from the horrible next to last level in the Many. That one was a huge stinker. But impressions great. Still prefer Deus Ex though. Probably will not replay SS2 ever.

Good thing this game is 14 years old then.

Perhaps it's not a bug, but a deliberate modification.

The proper ending is pretty wretched after all... :-)

No, it isn't.
Well if you don't get a fix soon, you can always just watch the outro on YouTube. Certainly not the same experience, but at least you get to see it.

K-Lite Media Codecs usually work better as a media codec pack. Might give you better compatibility in other parts of Windows too.
