I love this game and I am extremely appreciative of the hard work that went in to bringing it back into daylight. Rescuing this game from its insane legal limbo was itself a heroic victory worthy of our endless praise and song. Then you add improved graphics, sound, etc.? Amazing.
BUT 4-PLAYER CO-OP IS BROKEN.
From my wishlist item description: "Per many forum discussions, the GOG version of SS2 has non-functional 4-player co-op. When a 4th player attempts to join a game (with 3 already registered), another player gets kicked out, ad infinitum. Please fix! Remember Citadel!"
Let me reiterate: I am SO thankful for this game finally being re-released! But 4-player co-op is broken, even while the GOG game card continues to say that we can "play the story with up to three friends in the co-op multiplayer mode." If at all possible, this should be fixed.
In my own 4-player experience, we ended up building Windows 98 machines to play the game on. Multiplayer was that delicate. It just wasn't ready for prime-time when it was first released, it had some funny hooks in DirectX 6 or 8 (can't remember which) that didn't play nice on newer versions... It won't be easy to resolve. But please try! Please respect the will of the many. The Glory of The Many demands 4-player co-op.
