Hey guys wondering if anyone wants to play SS2 Co op 4 player :D

Im gonna need a client, Like tunngle to usei dont know how to set it up, and this is preferably for people that have completed the game at least once, I want to be a OSA guy so i can use all the psi skills, Maybe we can have each of us being a specialist at something for some real team play :D
I don't recommend playing this with 4 players unless it is 4 close friends that don't mind to reload again and again when the game will crash or hang at a loading screen.

The more player the more unstable the multiplayer is too.

I'm playing with a friend (2 player coop) and the game already crashed around 15 times and we are only at deck 5.
Not to mention the game actually doesn't work 4 player at all, even if you can get in game, it'll desync after training :(

I'm a bit annoyed with this false advertising on the GOG main page:
You don't have to face the horror alone. Play the story with up to three friends in the co-op multiplayer mode.
Multiplayer is actually possible, and I've done many 4-player co-op games with System Shock 2 in my life. I've completed the game close to ten times with 4 people.

Do a google search for "SS2 multiplayer guide" and check out the first link displayed. I'd link it myself, but apparently GOG has that feature disabled for general users.

Follow the advice there, you should be able to work through it and get it up and running with enough effort. With enough patience it's definitely possible. It is only impossible with particularly problematic router or hardware configurations, and even then I find that it is often actually possible, it merely requires a good VPN or some know-how. Do your research, and you'll get it working.

Oh, by the way -

The most common issue with the desync is a lack of proper port forwarding. Be sure you have the following ports forwarded:

TCP & UDP: 2300-2400
TCP & UDP: 28800-28900

And be sure to set the trigger port to 47624 (both incoming and outgoing (firewall) if it asks).

If you don't know how to do these things, look it up on google - there are many good guides for whatever brand of router you may have.

And one last thing - pardon for the posts, I just keep forgetting to mention things.

Save before every bulkhead and you'll find that multiplayer frustration is kept to a minimum. It really does not take long to get everyone back together once you get all the proper ports forwarded and multi figured out, and reload times take all of half a tick. Most of the infamous "constant" crashing is just on level changes, so quick saves before every bulkhead prevents frustration there.

It's worth it. SS2 is a completely different and awesome experience in co-op, and I hope Night Dive or the community eventually patch the multiplayer to be more stable.

All of this said, I played multiplayer for 4 hours last night with a friend and we did not have a single crash, and I've played this game in the past with 4 people many a time before the compatibility patches with minimal crashing too. It really isn't as notoriously buggy as people make it out to be, at least before Windows 7 came out. 7 did NOT like the engine SS2 runs on. But Night Dive (and the modder who originally modded up the engine with the New Dark patch) fixed that for us.

That ALSO said, I HAVE run into people that get tons of crashes in multiplayer. It just hates some rigs for multi. Here's hoping yours isn't one of them and you can work around it.

I haven't bought this game (yet?), but if this release is System Shock 2 + the anonymously released 2.4 patch, 4-player multiplayer will not work at all. The 2.4 patch broke it. 4-player multiplayer did work with the previous, official System Shock 2 update, though.

Of course, if GOG or Night Dive Studios did some additional patching...

Exactly, 2.4 definitely COMPLETELY broke 4 player Co-op, it's impossible (it'll work if you downgrade to 2.3, though)

I'm sorta of annoyed they didn't fix it, although it's probably out of anyones league, it frustrates me that it's advertised as 4 player on this site though.

I wanted to say a big thank you. My brothers and I were trying to get 3 players on LAN and we even downgraded all of our patches to 2.3 and it still never synched for us. After port adjustments it is now running flawlessly. This game is so much fun with coop!

Anybody have a link to patch 2.3? I've done a bit of searching and I can't seem to find it.

I doubt you can use the installer on the GOG version.

edit: I give up. I can't post a working link. SS2Tool 3.6 has the patch I think. It's also available as the 1st Google result for system shock patch.

1. Yes, the GOG release does indeed falsely claim that 4-player co-op works. It doesn't. It breaks with the same behavior that occurred with the 2.4/NewDark patch. See the System Shock forum (systemshock dot org), post "4-player Multiplayer" for more info on the behavior.

2. I have posted a review of the game to state as such titled "!! ALERT !! 4 PLAYER CO-OP IS BROKEN." If 4-player is important to you, I encourage you to up-vote this review. As of right now you have to sort by "most recent first" to see it... I just posted it a few minutes ago.

3. Yes, it crashes a lot on 4-player... But it IS possible to complete on 4-player. Note that when you actually fight the final boss fight, only one player will be allowed into the match, however... And that player should probably have psionics abilities. (Just sayin'.) For me and my friends, anyway, it was totally worth the struggle.
