Al3xand3r: I don't get why people who want to be credited use the GNU license for their software without any additions. As far as I've read, it does not require credit to be given for the modification and redistribution of the software it applies to. Such as SS2Tool. Though I could be mistaken, I've not studied it in depth or anything, I didn't see anything about credit in the installer. Kudos to gog for going out of their way to please.

Revenile: It's not that they HAVE to, heck in legal speak nothing wrong has been done. This is more of a thing of morals. Morally credit should be given, which we see GoG is attempting to set things straight now, though it could take time. This topic has been a kinda 'eh' thing to me. I'm not going to let this bother me, since I've known GOG would try to do the right thing if something came up. Heck I didn't even know of NewDark until this game's release. I'm all for GOG giving credit to those who made the initial fixes used in this release. But at the same time that credit not being there now isn't going to have me telling people not to buy the game.
Wait, this stuff was released under the GPL? If so and a copy of the GPL and a offer for source has been included, then they can fuck right the hell off with their bitching.

The GPL license does require giving credit, and it also requires you to distribute the source and any changes you made. Maybe you should actually read it? It's very readable.
I'm just glad the game was re-released.

And somewhat confused about people getting upset on behalf of others.

Rabble rabble rabble.

Can you quote the part about credit in the ss2tool 4.0 installer version of the license? I'm still not seeing it even after copy pasting it all in a document and using the search for credit/copyright but I guess the wording may be weird for me (not native English speaker). I see in the GPL FAQ that you can get credit but I don't see it in the actual license text. Although I imagine that it was Night Dive who provided the material without including the license part anyway.

I think this topic raised some valid points, but they were brought about in a manner I find inexcusable. Frankly, most of the first half of this topic made me sick.

I'm glad GoG did do their best to clarify things, I hope they'll do it here too when they have the time.

Yes, the modders are not mentioned in the credits and it's not very considerate but I think that it's very childish to argue for other people. If the modders feel themeself fooled, they can argue for themselves or even sue GOG. That's not the business of self-appointed deputys.

Thanks for the quote/link but after copy pasting the license as it is on the ss2tool installer and doing a search for a sentence from your quote/link it still comes up with nothing for some reason... Oh well.

Bullshit, existing attributions have to stay, one is not required to add them.
