So I'm playing through the game for the first time using a bunch of mods with the SS2 Mod Manager (mostly graphical mods for player and weapon models, some sound effects mods and a hi-res music one, SHTUP for textures, and ADoB for general balancing plus bug fixing). I made sure all the mods are visual redos or tech fixes so my experience is as vanilla as possible. I also tried to make sure all the mods cover all the graphical/sound/technical bases, but I also made sure none of the mods conflicted with each other.

Anyway it's been very smooth sailing so far, I'm having a great time and I just got off at the Hydroponics deck. But then I started getting this problem where if I reach a certain point in the level, the game suddenly crashes. So I download and ran SS2Tool v5.0 on it, disabled some of the mods temporarily and that seemed to fix the problem. Only for the crashing problem to pop up again as I got slightly further down the level. I never see any error on the screen and I get the typical "Unexpected Problem" in Windows 7, and I've tried disabling the sound-related mods only for it to have no impact on the glitch. So I'm really not sure what it is...

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions on what to do?

zip shock2.log and crash.dmp (both should be directly in your System Shock2 folder), upload to some sharing site like sendspace or similar and post the link.

thanks. do note that disabling ADaoB during gameplay is not a very good idea.

Okay, re-enabled it anyway and that seemed to have no impact overall. Any idea what's going wrong yet?
a random glitch. they just seem to happen sometimes (they did from the moment the game has been released all those years ago. NewDark mostly cured them, but some players just seem to get "lucky"). usually, the only thing that helps is loading an older save that is not bugged out yet.

if you still have such a save, that is.

I have one from the beginning of the level, so that might work. Thanks for the help anyway. Is there anything known to at least minimize the chance of said bugs occurring?

as far as I know, not really. just make a "hard" save on the beginning and the end of each deck, to minimize progress loss should something like that happen.

Follow the old RPG maxim: Save early, save often, and in different slots :D.

...Nope. Still no impact. I started a brand-new save from the beginning of the level. I exit the elevator, go through the door on the right, walk down the corridor, open the door into the next room, and then it crashes the second I walk a little into that room.

Anybody else got some suggestions? :\

Could be a mod issue. You said that you used a mod manager. They are not supported by by the latest SS2Tool. Suggest uninstalling all of them and reinstalling properly.
Figured out the problem, wasn't so much the mods as the mod manager itself. Manually installed all the mods after completely removing SS2 Mod Manager and re-doing SS2Tool v5, game works perfectly fine with all the same mods running.

Definitely don't use SS2MM, seems to cause crashes with this version of the game.
