It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Okay, I was a bit too hastywith my earlier comment, awful performance (sound & mouse cursor wise)

Ravey: Drag everything onto your Syndicate Wars install. Installed the port.

(the music files you need should be in the sound folder, so if there's no music in-game - move them over to the music folder and rename them track_1.ogg, track_2.ogg, track_3.ogg if necessary.)
Done. Which .exe to use, swars.exe gives me a ERROR: Allocation *W_SCREEN. Press Return to continue., so it doesn't even launch, DOSbox starts but is laggy & crappy. Tried many different things, err....

Could you write proper plain installation instructions? Would be appreciated...

*EDIT* Nevermind, sorted it out myself thanks your your instructions, everything's just dandy :D

1. Extract swars.zip into /SWARS folder
2. Move SWARS02, SWARS03 & SWARS04 from the /SWARS/sound folder to /SWARS/music & rename them to track_1, track_2 & track_3 (.ogg)
3. Move INTRO.MKV from /QDATA folder into /SWARS/intro folder
4. Play by clicking swars.exe

Thanks again, it's perfect! :D

Spykez0129: Who else bought syndicate wars?
I did not, I have no plans to buy SW until they release missing American Revolt. Yep.

But honestly I welcome this addition to GOG collection. :)

Is there any way to change the window size with this? Runs great but I'm trying to stream it and the tiny window size is killing me.

I'm a "completionist" too, I didn't want to touch Wing Commander II before GOG had released the addons of the original one, but as a hardcore Syndicate fan I can tell you that there's absolutely no reason to beat Syndicate and/or American Revolt before playing Syndicate Wars.

Use DosBox instead of the port. :P
There you can set custom resolutions in the configuration file.

Use the swars(windowed).bat instead of swars.exe :)

You can press F8 to switch to hi-res mode (640x480) in-game. You can run GOG's DOSBox version at any virtual resolution you want by changing the config.

No problem, added your instructions to the zip!
I'm well aware of using DosBox and how to change the config file. Was just being lazy this time around.

And yes, I was using the windowed exe. My question was if I could change the size of it rather than how to window in the first place.

Sorry, I like "point to point " instructions in that sense & you made them even more sensible after editing what I've mentioned.

Thanks much again, really appreciate it, able to fully enjoy the game now :D +rep

Daliz: Bought it in an instant. I like both the original and Wars. The soundtrack/sound effects and blowing up buildings is especially cool in Wars. :D

edit: oh and the legendary trailer
Haha, that trailer is how i came across the game in the first place. Was on my Ghost in the Shell VHS back in the day.

Huh, that's cool. I always wondered why Ghost in the Shell and Judge Dredd were being advertized in the game (aside from being cyberpunk like Syndicate). Guess it was some bigger deal where those movies and the game advertized each other.

dbfuru: I bought it but I'm having issues with emulation speed and sound issues. The sound is somewhat crackly and every so often game game freezes for a bit.

Is anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it?

Thanks.

Ravey: Use SWars Port instead of DOSBox.

I've bundled the port with dummy folders for convenience:
Thanks for this, the Swars port runs really great. For me, in DOSBox the menu animations are too fast, but the game speed itself is fine, but I do like this Windows port.

Only issue for me is that the Swars Windows port doesn't recognise my \ key (which is the default control for grouping agents), so I had to change this. Other than that, no problems.
I felt committed to buying it as I had been asking for it on Facebook for over a year now. Took a while but GOG delivered.

I still love the old school Bullfrog games.

I played The Original to death on my Amiga 1200 and Syndicate Wars top death on my old Windows 95 Pentium 1, 133Mhz back in high school days.

Can someone familiar with the original game report on whether the SWars Port code has been fixed so that it runs at the correct speed on modern machines?

I recall trying it about a year ago and finding that the speed was too high. Syndicate Wars always ran at a lowish framerate. The game is not designed to run too fast, it becomes very difficult to play, especially towards the end.

It's DosBoxed, so "running too fast" won't ever be a problem - if anything the game can get too slow if your machine is too weak to handle the emulation. The way the game was pre-configured by GOG it's a little slow, even (except for the menus which run too fast - and which is a good thing because those transitional effects drive me crazy).

If you want the game to constantly run with the intended speed you should try the source port that Ravey posted on the first page of this thread.

I'm talking about the port.

And Dosbox can run too fast, contrary to what you suggest.
