Ludi: who made the language packs?? i think the German one has an error.. when u get your first mail on the syndicate site it always crashes when the second section of the briefing is written only happens with the German language pack is installed.. something like that doesn't happen on the church's site or on later missions on the syndicate site..
Sorry about that. German was cut from the multilingual release because of censorship, so I had to borrow the files from the German version, which haven't been tested.

I'll look into it.

Hello,
I'm a Linux user. I play DOS games bought on GOG by extracting the files from the installer, modifying the scripts and running DOSBox manually with them.

It usually works fairly well but Syndicate Wars has performance issues when running on my current PC (a 6-years old laptop) so I'd like to try the Vexillium port.

I managed to compile a Linux exe from the source but then I'm a bit stuck regarding the data files to use as the website refers to the CD version while the GOG version is already installed and seems to have a different structure.

Anybody has a sorted list of files to use with the Vexillium port?

Here

Put everything below the root directory in /usr/local/share/swars, delete the savegame folder if you want your saves to be put in the home folder.

Thanks. Do I really have to put them in /usr/local/share/swars or can I put them in some dir in my /home along with the swars binary?

Not sure, sounds reasonable enough.
Ok, it works with files put in /usr/local/share/swars but I didn't succeed with another location (e.g /usr/share/games/swars or ~/.config/swars). Looks like the path is hardcoded; or maybe it can be changed at compilation time.

Anyway, the port works. :)
so anyone found a solution for the german language??
Well, the Syndicate Wars port has shown no signs of a new version being released, so the speed problem is still present.

For reference, see this thread: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/syndicate-wars-port/sVDHowuiXcs

Unavowed, one of the developers of the port, has even posted a patch file to fix it, but you have to compile it yourself. The instructions for compiling it just don't make sense to me, though, as they are nowhere near detailed enough and so assume a lot of compiling knowledge as a pre-requisite.

Using the text from the patch file I've been able to edit the relevant lines of code in the source file, but without knowing how to compile it I can't push this any further forward.

So, anyone have any idea what you are supposed to do to compile it (I'm on Windows)? Or would anyone want to try to compile the edited source file I have?
Can someone pleeeeeeeeease recompile the port for windows with the speed patch?
i just wanted to ask if anybody found a solution for the german version. i`ll start playing now but i`m kinda sad that i won`t experience the game in my native tongue.
it's been ported to windows already http://swars.vexillium.org/

Yes, that's what we're all talking about.

The port has a problem with speed.
Here's a patched binary:

https://github.com/mefistotelis/swars/releases/tag/0.3.1.13

To install:
- First install the standard 0.3 release of the port
- Then overwrite files with those in ZIP

Looks like this has been discontinued, is there a project that plans to pick up the slack?
