I am over the moon about Syndicate finally coming to GOG, but had a question about the EULA underneath the overview...

"An EA/Origin Account, including the acceptance of EA’s online Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (available at www.ea.com), the installation of Origin client application (www.origin/about.com) (or superceding download management software) as well as acceptance of the Origin (or superceding download management software) End User License Agreement, may be required to access the Software, online services and/or features and to download and apply Software updates and patches (if any)."

Will we need to install Origin just to be able to play Syndicate? Because that would be...not so good.

Syndicate (1993) from GOG.com will not require you to install anything besides the actual game.
Syndicate (2012) is not EA / Origin exclusive, for example it will be also available at Gamestop / Impulse.

Therefore the answer to your question: No, Origin is not required to play Syndicate video game.

I'd wait to hear official word of this before buying. There's nothing in the link to the EULA or the EULA itself that says that you *don't* need Origin for this version. And given that that is the EULA you have to agree to when you buy *THIS* version of Syndicate, that's what would apply.

Sorry - until that link is changed to something that doesn't mention Origin, GOG.com or EA won't be seeing my money.

Never assume. Read before you sign. The EULA says they can force you to use Origin to play the game, so you have no comeback if they do it later, for instance.

There is realy NO way at all, that this could be happening. Syndicate is played in DosBox. It's not a native Windows application and can be played on any machine or OS that can emulate a DOS-machine. There is no way for EA to force Origin on Syndicate (the old one) afterwards.

GoG stated sooo many times, that they are all about DRM free games and I intend to believe them, since first of all this is the reason for their existence.

To clarify things. Syndicate on GOG is not and never will require Origin platform to play.

That is the current EA standard EULA, the one you'll see everywhere. I wouldn't be worried. If GOG would need you to install Origin by some mysterious temporal anomoly, you would be entitled to a refund for false adverstising.

IF EA ever wants to combine Origin with their older titles, they will do it as a competitor to GOG, not as a partner with them.

Btw, for the most part, and as long as you are consumer, it's EULA schmeula. They aren't binding if they have any "surprise clauses" and a DRM on GOG qualifies as such..

Or read the EULA more carefully, e.g. "may be required". If it were required, you wouldn't see it on GOG.
