I have a setup with two screens, primary is 2560x1440 and the secondary is 2048x1152. Starting Syberia 2 works just fine but starting first Syberia results in the second screen getting resized and given a black fullscreen window and the first screen also gets a black window at upper left corner. Sound and music plays and I can hear changes in menuselection when i press arrow buttons.

Solution: Lower the resolution on the first screen below the second screens resolution, eg. 1920x1080. The game works perfectly fine. It also works fine if I disconnects the second screen and keeps the resolution at max 2048x1152.

If I have both screens at 2048x1152 the games seems to try and use the second screen.
Same result if both screens at 1920x1080 but both at 1280x960 makes the game work perfectly fine again.

If I have one screen at 2560x1440 I get an error message about the 3D redering engine not being able to initialized.

I hope this can help others with the same problem. Changeing the compatibility mode as others suggsested had no effect for me.

My antivirus flags dgVoodoo 2 as being risky and a suspected virus or malware. I've tried downloading it from several different sites and always get warned about it. Do you know of a site that has a clean copy?
its false alarm
dxwrapper and dgVoodoo 2 modyfied/emulated and hacked dxdraw and other dx.dll. Some antywirus find posibly atack.

Look site virustotal and test your file. Some best antyvir (avg/eset/kaspersky/gdata etc.) indtify positive file, not virus.

Important. dx.dll file must copy to game folder not Windows!

I can second that as being a false alarm--I think it's the NIS installer being picked up erroneously. Exclude it from you AV program and fire away. It's one of about three false positives Defender has flagged for me over the past several years...;) (Defender has the best--lowest--record of false positives of them all, imo!)
