Hello, maybe you can help me.
Do you know how to launch the game (Syberia 1) in window mode ?
Write "-w" or "-window" in the shortcut doesn't work.
In advance, thanks.

If you right click on the .exe file, isn't there an option to run the game in window mode?

Edit: No it does not work

Create a file named player.ini in your Syberia folder with the contents:

800 600 16 0 BaseCMO.cmo

The only value you should ever edit in the ini is the 4th integer (0=windowed mode, 1=full-screen mode). The first three values (Horizontal resolution, vertical resolution, bit depth) are hardcoded so they will be ignored anyway, the last one (name of the main game file) should be left alone.

For Syberia 2, the contents of player.ini should be

0 BaseCMO.cmo

Once again, 0=windowed mode, 1=full-screen mode, leave the second parameter alone.
Drennan, thank you. This works perfectly. I hope this post gets made into a sticky.
Yes, this works very well. Also, you can use the following value which ought to work in a player.ini file:

800 600 32 0 BaseCMO.cmo

...because the game offers its own internal 32-bit mode from "Options" anyway.

Great catch for people who don't want to have to switch their desktops down to 800x600 to run the game full screen.

One of the best posts ever, thanks

Works like a charm. You deserve all of the internets.

Thanks for this.

Does anyone know how to use this without the need to change resolution of the desktop to ugly mode? Syberia 2 works properly in a window using this tip at 2560x1600; but not Syberia, which still fails with the 'The 3D rendering engine could not be initialized' message. ;-(
I'm trying to get Star Trek Starfleet Academy to run in windowed mode. Is there a similar solution for it?
Using @drennan hint I was able to launch the game in window, but now only see a black window. The executable is listed on the task manager, consumes about 0.3% of CPU time and nothing more, only the black screen.

Windows 10 (1709), NVidia driver 388.31
It works but is there any way to make the window bigger, als it shows the regular mouse cursor over the ingame cursor which is a little bit disctracting...
Yeah, I was just thinking someone should create a tool that doubles the size of a window. (I don't care about pixelation or anti-aliasing.)
Funny thing... tried it today for the steam version and putting a player.ini with the exact line in the Syberia folder didn't change anything. As if the ini is ignored completely it stays in fullscreen with an ugly stretched view...

I had the same problem, but found a solution on the Steam forums.

When you save the file, do File>Save As>Type in Player.ini and change the save type as: All files.

800 600 16 0 BaseCMO.cmo this doesnt work for me, the only thing that seems to work is the compatibility stuff with 640x480 resolution in full screen. How the hell do i run this in windowed mode at a decent resolution?

why the hell do i have to jump through these extra hoop just to make this game work? Isnt GOG supposed to be all about making these old games run on modern hardware? smh. I specifically bought it on GOG so i wouldnt have to do shit like this. God dammit man...
