Hey guys, are there any plans from GoG to create a mod guide like you've done for some of the Infinity engine games?

The game is great no matter how it looks, but there are now a few mods out there that have done their best to update the aging models. And I think it'd be great to have a note on the store page to point players, new and old, towards some of the mods that are out there.

Do you think this would be a good idea?

Is there a mod that minimizes the number of clicks needed? There seem to be far too many windows--especially in the Research section. Or is there a mod that allows waypoints?

I'm not sure about UI and General Interface mods - I don't think so as from what I know the source codes isn't available to modders.
well, if you want a tip for a good mod then try this one:

ACM ... best mod for SotS in my opinion. Completely reworked research trees, rebalanced weapons, human ships had their models replaced, ... etc, etc, ...

Use keyboard shortcuts?
Or are your complaints similar to these below?

Might not be exactly what you want, but there are (possibly outdated?) modding guides on the wiki :

And plenty of information on the modding forums :

As for User Interface improvements, there's an IMHO critical one that you just HAVE to use with SotS1 :

You can see in action in the following video time link the left/right arrow keys shortcuts for the news ticker arrows :
(I'm skipping to the end at the start of the turn because the most important news about enemy fleets detected and combat results are towards the end)

Thanks for the info! :) Also, do you know where I can find the tech tree to build Cruisers? I've completed all the branches in the "Industrial" section, but for some reason Cruisers still aren't available.

That's... weird.
It should be :
Industrial : Waldo Units => Orbital Foundries => Cruiser Construction
(All of these core techs.)

Yeah I have all of that but I still can't build them for some reason. Maybe it's different for the alien races?
Before building ships, you have to make designs for these ships first, did you do that?

But there were default designs for the destroyers. Are there no default designs for the Cruisers and Dreadnaughts?

No. You're not going to go far with destroyer designs either - you generally have to redesign the colony DE's in the first dozen of turns once you get Suspeded Animation...
Hammerhead (Waldoes) on Extended Range DE's doesn't hurt either

P.S.: And it would be a waste to leave Armor CR's without Hammerhead/Strafe and decent non-missile weapons!

So when one starts a new game, which technology is the best to Research first?
Ah, but figuring this out is half of the fun! ;)

Do you know if there is a command to enable that top-right window? I think it's some kind of event log.
