It crashes at random parts of the game (in combat, in dialogue, etc.) and I have messed with display settings. My computer can definitely run the game so it's not the graphics I am worried about. ( I have an Nvidia 9600 gso running) Should I mess with compatibility? Should I turn off the various graphic specific settings like d3d optimizations? I will continue trying new resolutions and options but if anyone ran into this problem I would appreciate a push in the right directions.

Edit: I have tried everything the gog.com support has recommended (i.e. admin startup of sum.exe, reset graphics card settings, etc). I have changed the graphics settings for the game, changed the compatibility of the game, updated my graphics card via envidia.com, reset my monitor resolution, and various other small changes...yet the problem remains. I grew up playing this game and absolutely love it and would love to play it on my PC. Of course I could upgrade my graphics card but that seems fruitless as this game can clearly run on a 3.2 ghz processor. I have reset my power savings settings to ensure the tv does not turn off. Some notes for those willing to help:

I am running a nvidia 9600 gso, intel core duo CPU, 3.17 ghz, 3.00 GB of Ram, Windows XP version 2002, service pack 3, on a Samsung tv at 1920x1080 at 60 hz connected via HDMI - DVI cable
I also loved this game in my childhood, and have really enjoyed replaying it.

For me though I didn't experience any persistent crashing. Obviously I don't know what support have advised you, but perhaps you could try the unnofficial patch? It's not likely to help, but worth trying.

Apart from that, keep pestering support. Send them as much info as you can, and keep demanding a fix.

When the game crashes, do you get an error report? Seeing what that says could help figure out what's happening with the game.

Haven't run into this problem myself (played through the prologue and the first city), but every setup is different.
