I can launch the game alright but when I click on anything other than Settings, nothing happens. Sometimes even Settings doesn't respond either.

I guess the game does not support Ubuntu 20.04?
Another hypothesis is perhaps it's a bug introduced by the new update. I've just realized that the game is now 1.1.7 while I previously played 1.1.6 without any problem on my old machine.

I use gentoo. I could've sworn this game worked at one time (maybe like you said, 1.1.6 worked but not 1.1.7). Now the main menu is completely unresponsive (not even Settings works for me) and the version in the lower-left is 0.0.0. Is this game trying to connect to the Internet for some vestigial DRM? That's about the only thing I can think of that I do differently than a lot of people: no game gets to connect to the Internet, ever.

Looks like it's 1.1.7. I've tried reinstalling 1.1.6 and now the game works.

There seems to be a problem with the package 1.1.7 :

According to log, at least these files are missing :
-Prologue.bank
-Spells.bank
-UI.bank
(the last one is the main cause for the menu malfunctions)

Waiting for the next update since I just bought the game and don't have any previous installer.

edit :
After having "found" the 1.1.6 version (somewhere shady), those files are indeed missing but you also need to copy the folder "_Original" at the same place (in game/STYGIAN_Data/StreamingAssets/).

The menu works perfectly and I was able to create my character and start the game at least for the prologue.

I am using Ubuntu 18.04 w/ Stygian 1.1.7. Stygian also freezes when I click the 'confirm' button on using preset char or start a new char. I also get the copy recently too, so I cannot roll back to 1.1.6. Pretty frustrate.......

BTW, I also hesitated to switch to 20.04 because of the 32-bit lib problem. sigh.
Same problem with missing files (looking at the game log file in ~/.config/unity3d/Cultic Games/STYGIAN/Player.log)

Reported to tech support.
I had the same problem when I downloaded the latest installer on a new system (Arch Linux, in my case). As I didn't have an older installation/installer to hand, I downloaded the Windows setup, ran that under Wine, and copied the missing .bank files across. So I had to download a second version, and still needed Wine, but at least I can now play the game natively.
Six months of a broken Linux installer. I have not been able to play this at all since purchase, and now I don't even care any more. Is this ever going to be fixed? Trying to revert to an older version is not a solution. Gog needs to get off their asses and fix this or give me my money back.

GOG doesn't code games. It can wrap fixes into executables so games are more compatible, but it does not code games.

This is probably a game that should be pulled from sale, due to the developer no longer supporting it.

GOG packages games. From all accounts, this is a packaging issue. Also, GOG has access to the publisher, and can ask them to fix it. So yeah, blame 1C/Cultic Games as well, if you like, but also blame GOG for not even giving it a simple test run before delivery (which they supposedly do for every game, but I guess that only means Windows). In a way, I also blame OP for marking this thread solved, when the issue behind it clearly isn't.

Over a year now, and still a broken Linux installer. I went ahead and followed keilchif's advice and innoextract'ed the missing files from the Windows installer, and it seems to work, but who knows what else is broken? GOG/1C/Cultic Games needs to finally get of their asses and deliver a working Linux installer. Not that it should be my responsibility alone, but I did finally submit a support request for this. Part of the issue with that is that I don't run a "supported OS" like Ubuntu, even though this issue is clearly not OS-related.
