I get a black screen as soon as I launch this game - no picture whatsoever, and cannot even retrieve a picture hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL for task manager to exit

I'm using a core i3 laptop with HD3000 graphics, which should be enough as it plays plenty other games with no trouble

Any suggestions?

there are some suggestions, kind of disable Desktop Composition and Visual Themes in game ".exe" properties (under the compatibility tab) or disabling the second monitor.
