This game was one of those bargain bin finds you do on occasion. Basically that's where it ended up about three days after it was released - for whatever reason.
But it's not a bad game really. The intro movie always tugged at me and instantly got me in the fantasy RPG mood that you need to really enjoy whacking goblins upside the head with a big stick.
Granted - gameplay is awkward at times but not overly so and definitely not worse than any other of its contemporary colleagues.
This is on my "To Buy Later" list because of nostalgia (hey, I still have the original box on my shelf here) and so I can fire it up and watch that - admittedly somewhat crappy but ooh so moody - introduction sequence. =)

I still have the original disc somewhere myself. I remember it hard and kinda creepy (I was too young for it). The intro and overall graphics+sound were great and most importantly (I wouldn't be here otherwise) full of the right ATMOSPHERE. I SO wanted to go on past the floor two or so but I wasn't able to do so.. There's absolutely no excuse not to buy it when it's released here ^^

All Hail Wahooka! Definitely getting this when it comes out. I have long lost the box and the CD is probably collecting dust behind the book case. I was, however, able to dig out the small book that came with it "Thera Awakening". I wonder if this will be included as a PDF. Guess I'll go ahead and read it to get the anticipation a little higher.

Borrowed this game from a friend of mine back in the nineties', even though he didn't have the patience (insert brain/wit) to finish it; I did. It's a hell of a game with plenty of fantasy feeling and some rudimentary RPG elements.
Sure as hell gonna buy it and go down memory lane, even though it might ruin the fond memories I have of this game.

Well, I am definitely looking forward to Stonekeep's re-release because I never got a chance to play it when it originally came out. I was busy playing Bane of the Cosmic Forge and Crusaders of the Dark Savant, but my computer wasn't quite up to par in order to play Stonekeep. But, now with GOG, I can finally play a lot of these old classics that slipped away. ;-)

This game was my favorite and first RPG that I ever played from Start to Finish and I have always considered it to be amongst the best RPGs ever vreated for that era.
The only thing is that I was able to purchase a full box copy of it at a garage sale about 5 years ago and never have been able to get it to work in Win XP or even now Vista 64bit. And I have checked various forums like DosBot and everything close to it and all others seem to be unable to get it to work as well.I am hoping that somehow they will be able to find some kind of fix or patch that will get it to work once it is available via DL on this Website. Please or please find a solution to get it to work!!

Stonekeep was indeed a hard game! I remember not getting past the ants right at the very start! I remember, what was cool, was there is definitely a strategy to the fighting, certainly you won't get anywhere just clicking as fast as you can! The game has tons of atmosphere, and I agree that it has a very good intro - back in the day I saw it as like a movie!
Of course, don't forget, when your considering this game, that Brian Fargo, of Fallout fame, was an executive producer of Stonekeep! :)

Well Slybo! You must be one of the rare people who were and are able to run this game via DosBot as the Internet is full of Gamers that have tried everything to get it to work! Gratz to you my Friend..........now, anyway you can come over to my place up in the "Great White North" and show me how? LOL!
And belive me I have tried everything to get it to work on XP, Vista 32bit and now Vista64bit..................
BTW: You lucky Bugger for being able to pay it!..............LOL!

Hahahahaha Slybo..........That is what my 3 daughters say to me all the time...............just before they ask me for some money!!! LOL

Download DOSBox 0.71 and a front end for it from the DOSBox website (I recommend D-Fend Reloaded) install DOSBox to it's default location then install D-Fend or another front end. Open the front end and tell it where you installed the game to and click on the SK.bat file then click on the setup tab and click on setup.exe. Now go to the sound option and choose soundblaster 1 and set it to 220 5 1 5. Now go to CPU option and choose 20000 cycles. Now go to Drives option and add your CD drive letter and the drive where you installed Stonekeep. Now go to the Screen option and choose 640x480 and overlay. Now right click on the game title you entered in the Main option.and choose Setup. Set the sound to Soundblaster 1 and 220 5 1 5. save and exit.
All that should be enough to get the game running by doubler clicking on the game title in the main option.. Once you have got the game working you can go back into the front end and go through the other options like 'Use Full Screen' and 'Exit DOSBox when quitting game' and increasing or decreasing the CPU cycles to suit your PC, and trying other options like choosing Soundblaster 16 in your front end and then running Setup.exe again as above and this time choosing Soundblaster 16. If it works it should sound better, but it may not. This is the benefit of DOSBox front ends, they make it easy to play around and gt the best result!

I am definitely getting this so far I have a feeling of GOG being that "bargain bin" that I never found. With this and Fallout I can only hope to see more classic games.
