I Love Rpgs especially the ones where you are dungeon roaming. I love Ultima Underworld and Might and Magic..........but can't get into Stonekeep. After Earthworm Jim, D&D games, MDK series, Fallout, Descent, and Messiah....Interplay finally has a stinker. Don't know why anyone would want to play this.
Uh... Say what? :D

It's definitely different from most RPGs... in many ways it's more of an adventure game. There's less focus on stat-boosting and items and more focus on exploration and puzzles. A lot of the characters and writing are pretty cheesy too, but I thought that sort of added to the charm.

The beginning of the game is a bit bland and also rather hard, but if you get past that and pick up a few party members, things get more interesting. There's a bit of a lull right before the end, but then the actual end is interesting again.

Might be worth sticking with it a little longer, but I can understand if the game just isn't your thing.

i love this game as it holds many fond memories. The ONLY thing i HATE is the ending.... i'll say no more nor any spoilers lol
The game does have it faults, which turn it a bit annoying. Among the main things is the bad invetory system and rather dull surroundings which make the levels monotonious.

You haven't played 80s dungeon crawlers have ya? :P compared to that the surroundings in Stonekeep are sparkling in variety!

It's worth at least for one of the greatest rpg moments of all time: the fearie realm!!

Surprisingly enough I have. Personally I find in example the graphics in Pool of Radiance less monotonious even thought it has less colors and details. It may come down to it, that I just find the settings of Stonekeep bland and uninteresting, as there are more details in the graphics, but still not enough for real actual variation to make those walls actually interesting.

God, I hate that place.

Why? You don't like surreal, humorous, tongue in cheek stuff? Man i still laugh hard on "THE LAST TOME OF THE ELVES"

How come khul'kum how come?

What I like the most about stonekeep is it's not-so-serious tone that shines through all the script.

Oh and I forgot - if you have good midi sound on you system, the music is awesome! My favourite is the omnious tone of the sewers. (funny on my previous pc, the drums in the throg temple were honky tonk piano :P )

Ouch, my foot!

Man so many moments i love this game for.

I do agree about one point though - the inventory system can be a pain... i remember my first playthrough where I picked all stuff, including the smelly ones...

"Can I fall on my axe now?"

The game more than balances that out by having one of the best NPCs ever: The Great Wahooka! Or if you prefer, Wahooka the Great.

The inventory system is somewhat more bearable once you realize that PageUp and PageDown keys can be used to scroll it faster.
Just started playing, already seriously low on food cos those midget ogres keep kicking my arse. Happy memories of dungeon crawlers though - I'm on a nostalgia trip after playing Grimrock.
Stonekeep is the only real time first person RPG I finished playing (never could get into Dungeon Master or Eye of the Beholder), I liked especially the story, the NPCs and the magic system.
...can't say more than: I JUST LOVE THIS GAME (playing it right now..)

Immersion factor, a feeling of utter dread ect. This game had me literally glued to my chair, the Sewer level inself in worth the price of admission. Give it another shot, you be glad you did!

I loved this game when it first came out. Legends of Grimrock actually reminded me of this game.

Ha!! I had the same! When I saw Legend of Grimrock, Stonekeep just came to my head and I felt like I must find that old CD, instal it and play, and play and play! :D
