I want to buy this game because I think itd be awesome to play this game without using dosbox because dosbox screws the mouse up.
But I reads some of the threads and they mention dosbox does this game use dosbox or are you talking about your own personal copy not purchased by gog uses dosbox?
Nevermind I figured it out it does what a disapointment.
somewhere in this forum a workaround is mentioned as well
I thought these games were going to be remade to work on vista though. I know how to edit
the dosbox.conf file
fullscreen = true
Autoexec
mount c c:/dos/rogue
c:
rogue
see i can do that myself.

fullscreen=false
windowresolution=1280x1024
output=opengl
scaler=advinterp3x
I think they should at least modify the game to run on vista instead of using dosbox... This is almost as bad as steam.
Works just fine under DosBox.

I keep saying on so many sites that nobody ever mentions DOSBox front ends. This makles solving resolution and mouse problems solvable with a mouse click or a tab change using a windows GUI!
I certainly know how to use DOSBox, coming from a DOS background, but I use the D.O.G,. front-end (available on the DOSBox website), and it makes playing my DOS games an absolute doddle! Game doesn't like DOSBox 0.71? Just click the pull down menu and choose the 0.70 version and give that a try! Game running too slowly? Click on CPU tab and change the number then give it another go! Let the front-end edit the .Conf file for you!
If a pre configured front-end was included in DOS game downloads, there would be a lot less confusion and a lot less support needed!
Simple solution to the mouse problem: don't use it until you get to the menu. Moving it while the movies are playing is what messes it up.
Yeah the next version of dosbox should definitely tackle accessibility. As of now, getting dosbox to work perfectly can be a bit of a hassle. I was using DB back when it ran pretty poorly and you really had to muck with the # of cycles and skipped frames to get things smooth... so you guys are pretty lucky that all that stuff is handled automatically really well in 0.72.
But some things that can be messed with is screen resolution (I've had some weird issues where full screen yielded a 'zoomed' view but I had to muck with settings a bit to get things smooth). DB also has some REALLY nice scaler features that will reduce the hideous pixelization of old games and tries to 'smooth' it out. As of now, you can only access those by editing the .conf file, it'd be nice if there was a front end that can show you what settings are available with screenshots showing what to expect.
Guys,
i'm not sure what exactly the issue is, but we did all what was necessary to get all our games work perfectly on Vista and XP, so do Stonekeep does.
If you worry wheather it will work on Vista, you shouldn't, we carried about it.
So what's the deal with the dosbox after all?
We use it because it works with it just fine. And we are not able to do any modification inside the code.
So... Why so serious ? ;)

Because I already have a version that works with dosbox. The original. Are all of these games hacks that use similar programs to work with XP and Vista? If so, I can already do that for free. I was hoping for updated versions that actually work with the newer OSs. Not workarounds that can be found on the web already.
Why are people so damn whiny?
GOG sells old PC games PERIOD. Games that cant run under current operating systems come with DosBox in order to make them 100% playable in their original form. Why is this so complicated and unreasonable for some people?
Getting access to the original code and rewriting these games for XP/VISTA is totally utterly completely unfeasible.
First of all getting a publisher to hand over their entire source archive a game would be a logistical nightmare.
Second of all, even IF they did have access to the source code. Rewriting the code for over 30 DOS games to run under Windows would be unbelievably expensive and time consuming to the point that this site could never exist. And GOG certainly couldn't afford to sell those games for $5.99.
As if this all wasn't enough things would become doubly complicated, expensive, and time consuming if they where to "enhance" these games.

GOG isn't for you, then. Bye.

First of all, I'm not whining. I was simply asking a question. As it's presented on the site, one is led to believe that this is the case though with the "now compatible" statement. I'm just saying maybe they should be a little more up front about it on the front page. Obviously I don't really have a problem with dosbox or similar programs, as I said I already use them. Just a bit clearer on the advertising would be appropriate.
