I currently have 5 characters - 4 which are normally for both the ground and ship teams and one is a high charisma NPC named "Moneypenny" used solely for buying and selling cargo and equipment.

When mining, I sometimes leave Moneypenny in the ground crew, and I noticed that when I was scanning ships, I would have a lower range than I thought I should have. It should have been 51000, but it was 50200 instead. My ship team electronics guy (Jefry Demarco) has a skill of 5. Skill-up info would show the correct numbers for Jefry in the shipboard electronics position, but scan range was using the electronics skill from Moneypenny (Electronics 1).

When I switched Moneypenny with Jefry on the ground team, suddenly my space scans started working right.

Switching them back on the ground team caused the scans to break again, so... repeatable error.

Fixed by new patch.

Toccatta: Fixed by new patch.
I assume the patch is available through the gog client?

I am not seeing it as download-able on the web.
I'm referring to the notes for Patch 0.491 where the developer says:

FIXED: A bug that was deriving scanning bonuses from the incorrect crew member.

I'm not able to access the GoG Downloader links at this time, although this is where I would usually expect to find available patches. I don't know if downloader support has been permanently discontinued or if it's a problem with the web-pages, but you may have to redownload the entire installer (either parts 1-3 of 6 or 4-6 of 6 depending on whether you're using the 32 or 64 bit version.)

[edit] After trying the off-line installers, it appears that they're still version 0.485, so we may just need to wait a bit for the developer to get the 0.491 patch to us.

Sadly yes, earlier today they closed down the gog downloader, I admit I am not a happy camper...

Currently the version that you can download on the web is 0.485(A)
GOG staff does some kind of verification or repacking for the standalone installers so their updates generally lag 2-3 business days behind the galaxy client.
I sent a note to GOG developer support. They will be generating a new set of downloadable installers. It seems they did not add the game to their automated system - that will be fixed.
