I'm having an issue getting the game to work and wonder if anyone else has come across this.

The game starts up normally and brings me to the opening scene (image attached). But I am unable to progress much further because the game stops responding to my mouse clicks.

From that first screen I am able to turn left/right, or look at the TV screen, but once I do any one of those things the game becomes non-responsive. I cannot interact with anything, or move around at all, although the game itself continues to run and play music. I was forced to open task manager to quit the game.

Does anyone know a fix? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've change some option in the properties of the shortcut, may be it can help you.
The only thing is: my mouse cursor blink often.

No luck unfortunately. I tried the same options you had there, in addition to Win 95, 2000, Me and Vista. None of them seemed to make any difference.
I'm seeing a very similar issue, but only on my laptop. It runs fine on my desktop, but on my laptop once the game starts it won't take any mouse or keyboard input whatsoever. I see the interior of the house and the music plays, but the cursor is stuck in the center of the screen and the only keyboard input that does anything is ctrl-alt-del.
Same here. I've got a mouse pointer that occasionally flickers into existence. But very briefly. I've been able to rotate a bit, but that's it.

No menu. No title screen. Compatibility mode seems to be going all out already. It's all a bit odd.

Yep, I have exactly this too. Have put in a support request.
I'm having the blinking/flickering mouse error as well except I've managed to get in the elevator before giving up. My cursor will flicker into existence when it moves over something you can interact with in the environment and also when you move over buttons in the PET. My keyboard does not seem affected. I haven't messed with the compatibility mode settings. I've tried the support page but its DSR Factors fix didn't make any difference that I could tell.

I'd encourage everyone to submit support requests with their DxDiag so maybe they can get a big enough sample size to figure it out.

I have the CD version from years back, but it being put up on GOG has made me install it to give it a go. I've just started it, but this is my experience too: no title, no menu, and the mouse disappears at times when you're not meant to interact (though it sounds more extreme for you guys. I can turn just fine). This seems just like how the game is meant to run, unless someone knows better?

I'm having similar issues. Mouse pointer gets "stuck" but it really looks like the screen isn't refreshing like it is supposed to. I'm also using a laptop. Windows 7. I can't seem to choose a compatibility mode, my shortcut is set to XP mode.

I couldn't alt-tab but when I would go into task manager and back, the mouse would change position. Messing around a bit more, I found out whenever I did something where my laptop shows a graphic (change the brightness or the sound level brings up a dial on the monitor) it forced the visual in the game to refresh, and I was able to get to the lobby. The animation for the first bot seemed to work better, but not much.

I get the impression the game is running just fine in the background and it's mostly a visual issue with how the game is being refreshed.

The mouse pointer is hardly there at all. I can't imagine that it's supposed to disappear at all, but if it does it would be when it's really not needed. Not 99% of the time.
For once I have no issues; the screen shows as it's meant to and just... worked. The mouse cursor flickers a little when it's moved, but nothing that's particularly jarring.

I'm getting the same problem on Windows 7. Tried running as administrator but it makes no difference. The game runs and takes you to the starting room, but as soon as I press the first mouse action, the pointer vanishes and its impossible to do anything.

I have found I can click the TV without the pointer vanishing, but I cant actually turn the TV on. Clicking the blinking icon where the power button is does nothing. And if I try to move anywhere else, the same vanishing problem happens.

I've sent in a report. Hope they can apply a fix soon.

I'm having the issue with the mouse pointer flickering in and out of existence. I have found that if I hold the escape key down while playing it makes it visible a heck of a lot more.

Not a fix by any means but it takes things from extremely frustrating to playable :P
Got a reply from GOG Support, however it was just the stock "please try these things" and nothing specific. Update graphics and sound drivers for example (why would sound drivers stop my mouse pointer appearing?). Did indeed do them all and nothing.
That's not encouraging. I'm still waiting for a reply :/

I just updated my graphics driver and if anything its made the problem worse. The pointer before was stable up till you clicked something. Now it flickers and disappears like crazy. And it still vanishes completely when you try to interact with anything.
