I downloaded the game and started it. Everything starts out fine at first I load the cd, I can watch the easter egg with Douglas Adams on the TV and then when the ship crashes in it goes south. I can't hear the doorbot (although the other sounds are fine) and the game simply freezes up shortly after he moves in front of me. I've tried setting compatability to 95, 7 and VIsta they all have the same issue.

Well, as an option, you can now use ScummVM to play the game. We're currently in the final testing period before the 2.0 release on the 17th that will officially support it, so you'd need to use a Daily Build. On the plus side, if you discover any new bugs before testing ends on the 8th, there'd be a chance for them to get fixed for the official release :)
How to I run the gog version in scummvm?

Download and install (or extract – this depends on your operation system) a ScummVM daily build. Run ScummVM, click on Add Game, choose the game's installation folder, select the game in the list and click on start.

When starting the game the first time, it may prompt you for a missing titanic.dat file. If so, download it, and save it in the same folder you installed the game in.

Right. I knew I had forgotten something.

No worries. With proper releases, the build script actually embeds the dat files within the executable, so this step isn't required. But I don't think the daily builds do this, hence having to do it manually until the 2.0 release at the end of the month.
