Is there a good chance we have the demo to play by Christmas ? ^^
There is "some" chance :P
Really, we could have had the demo since Darksaber gave us permission to use the models.
We are just trying to add as much extra features and polishing as possible.
You know, I love X-Wing and TIE Fighter so much that I even create the key references by myself. hehe ^^

Here is the newest video I recorded yesterday.
It took a while because once I uploaded it, Disney blocked the whole part from "A long time ago" all the way to the first line in the text crawl because of copyright concerns!

So I had to skip the intro, and now you can see only the gameplay.

This is absolutely amazing. Probably the first time I've actually regretted not having any type of experience that could help a project. If I did, I would be volunteering all over the place.

Taking donations, or anything? :)

Thanks for your nice words...
But no, thanks. This project has no commercial aspirations of any kind and we do it just for sheer love to the original. *Looks around for Disney lawyers...* ;)

Actually, we will need plenty of help with playtesting and bug-finding, once we release something playable. I bet you will be able to help with that if you want!

That's super exiting to watch! Really looking forward to this.

Any way the space debris particles can be an optional toggle? I don't remember if you could turn them off in the original but you could in later games if you found them distracting.
Without those particles, it gives the impression of not moving anywhere. We went to great pains to get them working with the rest of the system. I dare say an option is feasible though.

Yep. I've gone back and forth between liking them and not over the years several times. I get their purpose, but sometimes they're just distracting - and like I said later games do give you the option. I figure I'm likely not the only one who'd like to be given the choice.
The video is really great. Like, really, really, really great.

The cockpit bugs the crap out of me, though. :P

It took me forever to realize that it was actually supposed to be a proper Y-Wing cockpit, because the nose seems so pointy, and reminded me more of the generic Z-95 et cetera cockpit in X-Wing Alliance. Only after comparing with original X-Wing did I realize it's probably because of the aspect ratio: it's tricky to have a 16:9 cockpit that's "the same" as a 4:3 cockpit, right?
You are right, the "nose" is somewhat pointy. It's not the aspect ratio but simply the canopy struts stretching too far in front. Az has already explained that he isn't a modeller and we will replace the cockpit at a later stage.
Yes, that is developer art. In particular, my 3D art.
And it's apparent that if I had to do that for a living... well, I will be quite thin by now.
I made the struts to match the cockpit in the XWAUP model of the Y-wing, but I made them too thin. We need to rebuild the cockpit 3D model.

See if you can do anything with this:

They're not my models - I think they originally came from Galaxies or some such. Might be something to start with though. Tools to convert are available in the FSO forums if you need them.
Wow... I had not checked in here for some time and I am amazed by how far you guys have gone with the development.

Congratulations!

And keep up the great work!
