It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

I submitted too for both games. It's not just an OS issue since we are seeing it on windows 7, 8, 10, etc. Hopefully they'll identify the issue soon or I will need to request a refund!
Well, whaddya know?

Mine's working, I decided to wait out the screen as was suggested to regain system control, and my irritatingly paranoid firewall finally cropped up with a permission request. Next attempt, it ran. Guess now any problems I have will have to be relayed elsewhere.

Try giving it a minute and see what happens, you never know.
Not working for me either. I got the intro music and then nothing. Black screen only. I thought this was an issue with my Windows 7 desktop running as a VM on Parallels 10. Obviously not.

Is there anyway to play it on my native OS X?
OK just wanted to share my experiences with X-wing 98 on Win 7 Pro 64.
By using the GOG shortcut first thing that comes up unusual is that it wants Admin Rights to run.
After that i get a Warning message that application did not exit correctly. I can choose Yes for recovery mode if my system stopped working properly or no if not. I choose "no" and then got a message that my joystick is not present and nothing more it didn't start. Same with "yes" but no more popup appears with that option.

I then plugged in my XBOX360 controller via Wifi receiver so that it was visible under windows gamecontrollers in system panel. Then I had to run "xwingtie.exe" from the game's folder which gives me some config menu probably from the original CD release as there's aoption to install directX 5 ;-)
There I chose "calibrate Joystick" which brought me to the windows gamecontroller section where i ran the calibration for the xBOX controller.
But it should somehow run without joystick or not? Can't imagine everybody has still a joystick at home nowadays?

After that it starts now but i got some false colors have to check how to get rid of that...

Hope this helps someone

DOS versions work well in Boxer or DOSBox.
I ended up running the installs as administrator, following the directx update instructions, and finally connecting an external monitor. I'm fairly sure the external monitor is what finally got the games to run for me. Now I just have to get the xbox one controller configured ideally, and I'll hopefully have a couple playable games.
Everyone sure there is not the AV or firewall spoiling things?
I had the same issue. Download this unofficial compatibility patch and see if it helps. It fixed my issues.

I have got Win 10 and XvT wouldn't open at all. I uninstalled and re-installed. No joy.

I stopped all Galaxyxxx files in the Task Manager and Z_XVT__.exe if it was running(You still need to end these if they are running). Still no joy.

Went through a lot of files and opened XVTERR.txt since the description lead me to believe it will list all errors encountered. It did have a bunch and I deleted the content, saved the file again.

Now XvT opens fine - but now I have the screen flickering ever so often - will try to figure out why.

EDIT:

Just an update. Balance of Power started up but the screen flickered. XvT did not start up - just a black screen.

Going to the installation folder, I enabled compatibility for both XWINGTIE.EXE and Z_XVT__.EXE to run compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack2), 640x480 screen res and Admin rights. I am convinced that not all of it is needed, but it is working and so I am not changing anything.

I also did the same settings for the GOG shortcut.

Edit 2:
XVTERR.txt is only responsible for reporting errors - can't see that it has got anything to do with anything.
I have installed XvT on my laptop with Windows 10 with the same result.
It just does not want to open. I am not sure what I did differently on my pc - but it works just fine???
